Default Do you remember your first birthday?

Serisouly, I wonder whether a human being is able to remember its own first birthday. (I certainly don't!)

I've seen pictures. But I think I slept through the whole thing.

The earliest memories I have start when I was two or three. All I can really remember was playing with a neighbor kid once, going to the hospital where my sister was born, and when I moved to Finland.

Hehe sorry, I voted yes . I thought the question was, "what's the first birthday you remember?" In my case, that was my second. I remember getting some kind of orange car model, and afterwards, photos confirmed this sentiment.

I too don't remember my birthday, but I believe I crapped my pants at least once on my first birthday!

I don't remember my first birthday, but I do remember a few things before my second. My father was an alcoholic, but stopped drinking about two months before my second birthday. I still remember holding onto the kitchen table leg, and reaching up to his glass. He always left a 1/2 inch of beer in his glass, and every morning I would take that and drink it before my mother caught me.

I also remember swinging around this same table leg, and being able to walk under the kitchen table. And I remember when I grew enough to hit my head on it.

Blimey! I can hardly remember what day it is, never mind my first birthday

I have memories from my childhood (like when my Dad left when I was 4 - remember it like yesterday, 24 years ago), yet I cant for the life of me think of any birthdays...maybe I am still zero years old really

We have a home video with the title "Jessica 1987". It is our only home video (my parents had to borrow the camera). My parents don't remember the firs words of any of my two sisters and I. BUT they remembered that I was born on a Saturday, because both my sisters were Sunday Children.

Anyway, I don't know if my first birthday is also on that tape, but it was filmed in the first year of my life (I was born in 1987).

I remember that on that tape, my two older sisters were feeding me semolina pudding (the german word is "Grießbrei". I think the english word sounds like something disgusting...something yucky...) mixed with mashed orange.

Didn't Salvador Dali claim he was able to remember being in his momma's belly?

If yes, then he probably saw ants there. At least that would explain a lot.

When I was about 4, I asked my mother where I was when I was in this dark tunnel, and something was pushing me really hard, and I could see a small opening with light coming through, but I didn't think I could fit through that. I was being pushed so hard though, that I squeezed through - then it was very bright, and I was cold and wet. She kinda freaked, but didn't really answer me, other than to say it was a dream, probably.

A few weeks later at the pediatrician, she asked him if it was possible that I remembered being born, and he said some kids do remember it. He asked me about it, and confirmed that I had remembered it. He asked if I remembered anything else, and I told him that I remembered that my left ear hurt. I don't still have the memory of the birth, but I do still remember the doctor visit.

Wow...the light at the end of the tunnel...Being born, or rather, borne from this world to the next!

Both the way in and the way out! Interesting, yes?

Aren't babies born with their eyes closed? So maybe it was kind of a dream anyway?

Not necessarily - I think they are squeezing them shut because of the bright light. But even so, light shows through eyelids. And even if it was a dream as well, we often relive things in dreams.

As I said I no longer remember it, but what I described to the doc was seeing only light, no specific images. That would not be beyond the ability of an infant brain.

Yes. That's how I thought of it. (I didn't think you made it up or anything. Just in case you had that impression.)
