Earth at night It's as if the stars have fallen down to earth... -

It also explains why the stars are nearly impossible to see from the city.

I've heard that the moon looks red, or yellow in the city.
Here it is a sparkling silvery-white. -

It's white here in London.
Northern Russia and Alsaka fascinate me. I know a lot about Africa, for example, but those regions in particular have an air of mystery to them. Look at the vast expanse of black. Wierd. And cold. |

So which fleck of white dot are you Jazy?
Looking at Korea makes me sad because of the very noticeable difference between north and south Koreas. There is a good reason behind why they teach young Korean kids the "Our hope is unification" song at a very early age. I hope Korea will be more like Germany in near future. |

Europe, US,Japan and India are sucking out all the energy from the earth. Look at the brightness of these places compared to the rest of earth.

Wow, it's true--the north Koreans are living in the dark (quite literally)!
Despite the general blackness in northern Russia, the two capitals, Moscow and St. Petersburg are a pair of very impressive specks of light! I really wanna visit those places. It's also interesting to see why Greenland is so sparsely populated--most of it is underneath the ice cap, with only the south-west having livable areas... ahem...Pretty lights!

I'm on the Shore of Wonder, silly...er, gilly. I am surrounded by stars. But currently I am at my house in Europe. See that lightless are above the Alps? The one surrounded by really lifght areas? It has a single spot of light in the middle. That's me. If you look really closely, you can see some single specks of light in Antarctica (the area of it that is below Australia and also some in the area that is below New Zealand). - edit: I had forgotten to capitalize 'Shore of Wonder'

Nice to see that the Netherlands is about the only country in the world that's completely illuminated. Which isn't a good thing, mind you. For us, I mean.

That's a great picture. I have a huge version of it up on my wall (currently the only poster I have) and it's a fascinating thing to stare at. Look at the points of light strung out across the USSR, for instance - I always assume they must be small towns that grew up next to the Trans-Siberia Railway, but I've never bothered to research it. Also check out how heavily populated the French and Spanish Mediterranean coasts appear.
I hadn't spotted North Korea being in near total darkness - I guess it just shows how much you can learn about the world from this image. It beats a political world map any day! |

Unfortunately, I fear most Northern Korean kids are being practically forced to do manual labour and to recite slogans as -
