Default LiveJournal?

Who has an LJ? Who wants to invite me in, so that I can post on some of the community LJs I read?

"Yes, but I had to con someone into inviting me. Then I realised LiveJournal is only useful for those with unseemly amounts of pent-up teen angst and never used it again"

That's what I'd have voted for if it was available, you insen... (no)

Anyway, PM me if you want to steal away my invitation code thingy, although I know a certain mug who happens to post here who paid for an account, so should have plenty of codes to give away.

I will do that. And yes, I am familiar with that "mug," too. The community diaries actually provide use, though. (For example: A couple of the Trillian devs held one for awhile because we weren't receiving *any* updates through official channels. It's a good place to make feature requests, too, 'cause there's less noise there.)

Err.. that was the intended meaning of option 6. livejournal. Existed way before this blog "phenomenon." nick drake. A bunch of pent-up angsty teens that occasionally post info on screenings of the documentary film on him, or concerts or some such.

edit: Ha ha, Marek, I found it!

edit 2: I also found this cool picture from your blog:

I got when ages ago when the site was pretty new. I didn't even use it for a while, then I just started using it as a place to post funny AIM conversations. I think the whole "blog" thing is quite honestly rather dumb in 99% of the examples I've seen. Some of them probably won't make sense if you don't know the people who are responsible for them, but some are just funny because of their randomness. Of course, just about nobody ever talks to me on AIM anymore so my journal hasn't been very active lately. I do have a couple IRC quotes from recently but that's about it. I used to post stuff multiple times a day.

Here it is: http://www.livejournal.com/users/cremo

I can't understand a sliver of what's going on in there

Oh well...

As for LJ itself...I'm not a bloggy kinda guy. If I have thoughts, my head stores them. If a thought is worth writing down, I don't write it down and make extra careful to remember it. If it's really worth writing down, then I jot it down in a notebook of mine. It's filled with great quotations that I've heard around places and other stuff like that. None of that "today I met John, he has changed a lot" stuff...although no offence to anyone who does, and happens to enjoy doing that.

I like LJ, I didn't like having to pay for it though. The two people I gave my codes too have posted once or twice and left them.

PTDC: why do you pay for it? Mine is free... Is it just so you can get that subdomain address instead of livejournal.com/users/whatever?

remix: It's no longer free, except by invitation. Hence the separate choices in the poll.

Oh, ok. It's just a one-time fee though, right? Not a monthly thing, I assume

I just don't get this Lj and blog thing... And if I ever did have a blog it would be:
-Today I played videogames. watched a movie and read some comic books....
Exciting? Of course not!
I don't even have my own webpage... And I probably never will, not beacuse I don't know how to make one, but because I can't find a reason to do it...

I think this quote, itself culled from a blog called 'we are the bean robi', sums up the general pointlessness of blogging perfectly:

Quote:
in other garreth news, i found an old website which amused me greatly for its sheer pointlessness and random rabbiting on about something that only interested the boy who wrote it. take a look at http://www.huzatron.freeserve.co.uk/joey/. what sort of a person has a character who write a blog called joey the fish.
Written with irony set to 'maximum'? Sadly I think not...

Blogs are interesting when it's someone who is a good writer who is knowledgable in some set of subjects, and is writing about those subjects and occasionally sprinkles the on-topic posts with well written anecdotes or storyish type things. That never happens on livejournal, though. LJ is home of the angst.*

*That's not to say I don't have an LJ, but I also pretty much use it never.
