So what're you listening to now/eagerly anticipating music wise? I've picked up a couple of outstanding albums lately.

First off, the Underworld soundtrack. Not terribly consistent, but has some amazing songs on it. REV: 2020 by Puscifer (Maynard James Keenan is godly) and Bring Me the Disco King by David Bowie w/ Maynard James Keenan (Who is godly) are my two favorite songs on there. But there are certainly more good songs. I reccomend it. A very haunting album overall.

Secondly, I just recently got De-loused in the Comatorium by The Mars Volta. THE best album I've heard in a LONG time. Not a bad track on there. They're very artistic and bautiful, but still manage to be fast-paced and rockin'. I've heard the term Punk Floyd to describe them, and it fits pretty well. I love this record. Fantastic.

As far as upcoming albums, 13th Step by A Perfect Circle comes out September 16. Oh yeah. I had the chance to hear them on their tour this summer, where they played a few new songs. The CD should be excellent. I'm gonna pick it up the very day it comes out.

I agree 100% with what you said about The Mars Volta. De-Loused in the Comatorium is the best CD I've heard in a long time, and the best CD of the year so far.

Looking farther into the future, a lot of good bands are currently working on albums for Fall or next year. Iggy Pop, Green Day, Beastie Boys, and I've even heard Queens of the Stone Age will be heading back into the studio late this year. Woo!

Wee, a music thread!

Ehm, well. What I'm listening to at the moment? Well, first and foremost Dilate by God herself, Ani DiFranco. I picked it up a few days ago, and as always, she blew me away. Whenever I'm not listening to it, I think about it. I just can't get enough of her. She's brilliant.

When I'm not listening to Ani, it mostly is my usual share of 70's funk/soul. Basically, atm, The JB's. Wonderful, wonderful deep funk. Those horns! My god, they kick ass. Oh, I picked up a few more albums from 71. There's a Riot Goin' On by Sly and the Family Stone, and The Inner Mounting Flame by The Mahavishnu Orchestra (jazz-rock, kinda...).

Mixed with that, some Stevie Wonder (Songs in the Key of Life!!), Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock (Head Hunters - extremely funky), Cymande, Cressida...

Oh, and I've been trying out Tool a bit as well. They're kind of interesting, from what I've heard. Still, Ani occupies most of my time...

I'll chip in my appreciation for The Mars Volta as well. I wouldn't say Deloused in the Comatorium is the best album of the year, but it's definitely quite good.

I'm currently also enjoying the following new/current artists (not in any sort of ranking):
The Black Heart Procession (Amore Del Tropico has become one of my favorite albums of all time)
Godspeed You! Black Emperor (as always, this band continues to inspire me)
Aimee Mann
...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead
John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin's bassist, but his work in no way relies on his pedigree; his solo material is excellent)
The Flaming Lips (The Soft Bulletin is one of the most magnificent recordings of recent years)
Modest Mouse
Mogwai
Radiohead
And Tamz has just turned me on to K's Choice, with whom I'm sure I'll become more familiar soon.

I'm also heavily listening to the following non-current artists:
Electric Light Orchestra (A New World Record sets a new world record for awesomeness)
Led Zeppelin (when am I not?)
Pink Floyd (check out Animals for a staggeringly brilliant and yet somehow not-hugely-known concept album)
Bad Company
Queen
The Pixies
The Beatles (started listening to Abbey Road after a few dry months...hot damn.)
The Beach Boys (recently discovered Pet Sounds...wow.)


...and that's what currently comes to mind.

Oh, and I forgot to mention before, The Pixies are regroupig for a tour, and possibly a new album!

I'm listening to my newly received demo of Annatar... and some similair numbers in my playlist... Rain Fell Within, After Forever, Autumn, Nightwish, Within Temptation, etc.

Huzzah! Tool is, to me, the best band EVAH! Which album?

Lateralus? It's the only one he had up there. I am, actually, clueless about Tool, besides the fact that I hear he's the inspiration for (and much better than) all these Perfect Circle, Chevelle (cool band) -type people.

Maynard James Keating, of Tool, was lead guitarist on the debut album of A Perfect Circle, Mer de Nom.
