Glad to see that the site and the forum are back up and nice to see a music thread.
I am also really looking forward to the new album by A Perfect Circle. The song Weak And Powerless is great and the musicvideo is really odd and cool. I have heard that they have lost some bandmembers. This fact means no more violins which is really sad according to me. Most recently I have been listening to Suidakras latest album and a really great norweigen band called Ásmegin. Opeth two latest album has been played most frequently (I am going to see them live TWICE in a couple of weeks). I have also listened very much to Metallica. I have drowned my sorrow about how bad St Anger is by listening to Master Of Puppets, ...And Justice For All and the black album. Ooops, I forgot about A.F.I. I have been listening to their new album "Sing The Sorrow" and I have taken out their old albums again. I saw them not long ago and it was a really great concert. And yes, a couple of members did leave APC (Including Paz, the violinist). They've been replaced by James Iha (Of Smahing Pumpkins) and Jeordie White (Formerly known as Twiggy Ramirez, of Marilyn Manson). So the new line-up is still pretty sweet. |

Verve Remixed/Verve Remixed 2
For some reason, lately I've really been into the great jazz vocalists: Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, etc., and that's how I found out about these albums. Basically, Verve Records invited top DJs/remixers (sorry, no remixors) to pick any song out of their catalog and have at it. Talk about a kid in a candy store! My current favorite is the Rae & Christian remix of Dinah Washington's "Is You Is Or Is You Ain't My Baby?" Shivaree, "Rough Dreams" An American band, but I had to import this CD from the UK. This is a wonderful album that proves pop music doesn't have to be brainless to sound good, and in fact, sounds better when it's not. On top of that, their first album (which is also very nice, and is available in the U.S.) has quite possibly the best title ever: "I Oughta Give You a Shot in the Head for Making Me Live in This Dump." Maroon 5, "Songs About Jane" Fun and funky pop-rock. The lead singer sounds a bit like Stevie Wonder at times. I hadn't heard of them before they opened for a concert I went to this summer, and I was blown away. The album is really good, but they're even better live. Other things I've been listening to of late, in no particular order: Nickel Creek, "This Side" "Grim Fandango" music, ripped with SCUMM Revisited U2, "Achtung Baby" (this is unlikely to ever leave my playlist for long, really) Steve Earle, "Jerusalem" [especially "Amerika v6.0 (The Best We Can Do)"] Norah Jones, "Come Away With Me" (also playing her "Live in New Orleans" DVD through the stereo without turning on the TV) Dan Bern, "Fleeting Days"

Yay! I've had the Dinah Washington remix as an mp3 for some time. Love it. Now that I know that it comes from an album I'm going to look into buying it.
Remixor: Bad Company is both a hip hop and a drum'n'bass artist name. Which one were you refering to? Apparently not many people are into electronica, btw. |

Erwin you are cra... wait, André Hazes isn't all that bad. Certainly not my taste, but it isn't very awful to listen to. As opposed to Frans Bauwer, which is an absolute HORROR to listen to. I mean it, I know so from experience, my father is a fan. There are only a few genres that I truly despise and simply can't listen to. Trance/dance is one, Frans Bauwer is another

I don't hold it against you
But the thing is, trance/dance/Bauwer makes me PHYSICALLY ill. Those first two I don't even see as "music". Honestly.

With "electronica" I generally mean the whole spectrum of electronic music, from ambient to drum'n'bass, to techno and house. Not that odd subgenre I forgot it's also associated with.
I don't like using the word techno to describe all electronic music (e.g. like Eminem calls Moby's music techno). That gets way too confusing because techno is now generally associated with a very specific style (i.e. heavy bass, 120-150bpm, and pretty repetitive to the untrained ear). I don't know what else to call it! It's kind of sad how techno and house easily get shunned thanks to the raver/club/trance crap they put on the airwaves. Like Flux, that stuff makes me physicially ill  |

Actually I'm getting into techno/electronica quite a lot now, because of the guy I'm going out with now .. he's a DJ and plays mainly techno and some house. You're right, I did have the completely wrong impression of it before, and I still don't like that crap, but most of the stuff he plays is really good and totally unlike the popular conception..

Recenty I've focused on Faith no More discography (especially "AotY" and "KfaD, FfaL").
I'm eagerly anticipating to buy apc's new album - 13th Step. I also hope that Incubus will release their new album soon. The constant for me is listening to my "Sonic Triad": Tool Incubus Queens of the Stone Age (and Kyuss before them) Quote:
I agree he is one of the best, especially when it comes to empathy/emotions in music. But I think that Mike Patton (FNM, Mr. Bungle, Fantomas etc.etc.etc.) exceeds him when it comes to technical and experimentatory side. He has broader range of vocals simply and therefore more possibilities. With the voice like his he could have easily perform as a professional opera singer if he wanted to I guess Quote:

A lot of Tool fans talk about Mike Patton, but I've never really gotten into him. Tomahawk opened for Tool when I saw them last year, and I thought they were just horrendous. What would you reccomend of his to check out? Maybe I just need to let him grow on me. |
