Cruel twist of fate or cosmic justice? You decide.

Probably a little of both.

He was a lot thinner than I excpected....
But I do believe this is the most ironic thing I've heard in a long time.... BTW: Royal Fool, you changed your avatar pic from Pichu to Puff Lain, right? It's so cute it hurts....

Well, technically it's not ironic at all, it's in fact very fitting. What would be ironic would be if he died peacefully at a ripe old age in the peak of health, with low cholestoral.

Personally, I have nothing against McDonalds.
I do, however, have something against busy 'career-goes-first' parents who are too lazy or busy to cook a normal meal for their kids and drive off to the nearest burger joint instead. I think the general negativism about McDonalds is often quite misplaced. --Erwin

McDonalds Strawberry Milkshake is excellent, and those who claim that the burgers are incredibly bad for your health obviously failed to notice the gherkin. Tomato sauce is a vegetable too!

Erwin, I don't know how it's over there in the Netherlands but here in Iceland we actually have to pay for the friggin' ketchup. Yes. Granted, it's not expensive, but hey, it adds to the total. Paying for ketchup is rather ridiculous.

I guess we're lucky then, since the ketchup is free.
I have nothing against McDonalds. They have reasonably good burgers and aren't all that expensive. I'd think twice, though, before putting on McKids clothes on my kid (if I had one)... And it would be kind of ironic, if he was fatter.

Alright people, time for a lesson in irony. The term ironic is used to describe things that are in striking contrast to what is accepted or intended. Oddly enough, this is exactly the opposite of how most people seem to use the term, for reasons that escape me.
Ironic: "The McDonald's CEO died in a way that had nothing to do with being unhealthy." Not ironic: "The McDonald's CEO died from a heart attack caused by embarassingly high cholesterol." Ironic: "The McDonald's CEO was extraordinarily thin." Not ironic: "The MCDonad's CEO was a huge fatass." Ironic: "People actually use the term 'ironic' correctly." Not ironic: "Nobody ever uses this damn word right."

Blame it on that singer girl, you know the one who sang a song about irony that wasn't ironic at all?
-Traffic jam when you're already late. -10.000 spoons when all you need is a knife. yada yada, I can't remeber the rest....

"he died as he lived" or "he met a fitting end" are decently striking and more accurate alternatives to "how ironic" also, sorry for posting this at all. i'm really bored at work.

Hmm... I'll disagree here, sort of. The irony of the dude being a mountainous lardbutt that keeled over dead from a McHeart Attack would be in his own failure to recognize the dangers of his company's food, which he devoted his career to foisting on the public (presumably as a non-threatening food). It would be fitting AND ironic. Just a different level of expectation. In remixor's view, the understanding is that everyone knows McD's is a cholesterol killer, so such a death would be predictable in one so closely linked to the company. In the other, the expectation is that the CEO should know better than anyone what risks the food carries, and being so completely oblivious to the risks that he died from it would be an irony.
It would actually BE a surprise if a fast food CEO was fat, as that would be a horrible advertisement. These companies rely on people conveniently ignoring the issue that they're eating junk. |
