I write like...
Just a funny thing that a friend of mine posted on another forum. Copy and paste any text you've written, and it will analyze your writing style and match it with that of a famous author.
Plug your latest post into the machine, and have fun!

Coincidentally, I saw this on another forum just earlier today. It is indeed fun.
((that statement came up with 'Dan Brown')). I like also how posting the word "derp" over and over again resulted in 'James Fennimore Cooper'. Here's the link, btw. http://iwl.me/

Here I am P G Wodehouse. On another forum I frequent I am H G Wells. I think I'm fairly happy with both of those.

I put in a couple of 1-2 line posts from message boards, and I got answers as different as Dan Brown, Stephen King, Mark Twain, and H.P. Lovecraft. However, when I put in two long-ish pieces of "prose" (if you can call it that) that I wrote a while back, it gave me David Foster Wallace both times.

I fed it my as yet unpublished No Nonsense Nonsonnets one by one. They come out as either Kurt Vonnegut or David Foster Wallace. (2 of each) Interestingly, I can see the differences that tip it one way or the other. Not heard of David Foster Wallace. Any recommendations on something he wrote.
I did get a single J K Rowling reading but that would appear to be an anomaly because the particular poem contains words that look a bit like her spell names.

I'd never heard of him either. A couple friends recommended that I start with short stories or articles (I'm sure a Google search would turn something up). Apparently, his novels are very dense and wordy, and a slow read, but worth the trouble.

I'm assuming you frequently use the words "invisibility" and "muggle". LOL

Is the list of "available" authors anywhere?
I'm thinking you can't get "you write like Umberto Eco" for example... |

suddenly I find myself wishing it would say "you write like a dairy farmer" so I could reply "how appropriate, you write like a cow"

Apparently Dostoyevsky (as you English write the name...) writes like Charles Dickens... Or maybe it's the translator. Anyways, a different passage got Leo Tolstoy. Getting closer... Now I'll put the whole text, let's see...
Yep, Tolstoy. |

Apparently, Neil Gaiman's style is notable for its use of binary.

Terminal Monday rated me as James Joyce. Some of my old LINKTales fic got me rated as Dan Brown. My personal blog got me rated as Margaret Atwood. I should keep trying until I get Douglas Adams or Philip K. Dick.
ETA: The first three chapters of The Bride of War got me Kurt Vonnegut. That'll do. ETA2: And Terminal Monday is apparently a lot like Cory Doctorow. Not having read him, I'm not sure I agree, but it IS flattering, nonetheless. Last edited by Lee in Limbo; 07-20-2010 at 01:42 PM. |
