It was at a lecture Will Wright gave entitled "Triangulation: A New Approach to Game Design" (I think). He was making the point that most games could be fairly easily compared to basic objects in our pop culture. For example, Quake is essentially analogous to the children's game Cops and Robbers (good guy needs to shoot all the bad guys). Grim Fandango, however, defied such mundane characterization.
