Thank you Adventure Gamers....
...for introducing me to the most wonderful woman in the World. Many here won't know me but some old-timers will remember me I hope, and they will no doubt also remember Megryan2001 aka DoughyWhite aka Iris.
Iris and I met on the Adventure Gamers forums (the old ones) way back in early 2001, completely unintentionally (by that I mean neither of us were actually in search of a partner at the time) and got to more serious chat after being more formally introduced in real-time ICQ chat by fellow AG member Tamz (Tamara). After many weeks of endless chat often into the early hours and despite myself being living in Birmingham, England and Iris in Munich, Germany, we decided to meet up. So I flew to Munich in June 2001 for our first face-to-face. We got on so well in person that I returned another 6 times before finally moving to Munich permanently in late December 2001. To cut a long story short (and those who remember me will know I'm not good at that ), after 8 years together Iris and I yesterday, finally, got MARRIED. Despite our absence from AG in recent years, the site and those behind it and indulging in it, especially those fellow members and admin from the days when we frequented here almost daily, have always been close to our hearts. We can be seen in Burns Flippers thread in the group photos (allegedly from 2002 and 2005 although I happen to know the first is from 2001 and the second from late 2001/early 2002). We are also the newest member (MegsandCurt) in the forum picture from Burns' personal collection there dated January 26th 2002 (less than a month after I immigrated to Munich to be with Iris). http://www.adventuregamers.com/forum...ad.php?t=24745 We hope you all here have discovered as cozy, fun and friendly a group of people as we happened across way back in 2001. Our Longest Journey continues, together, and we hope all of yours do too. Our fondest wishes to you all. Curt and Iris Oh, and Tamz for disappearing too.

Aww, that's so sweet! Congrats! I've actually met one of my best friends on here, and made a lot of good friends.

Hey Curt, I remember you and Iris! Amazing how fast the time goes by...
It's good to hear from you again, especially with fantastic news like this. Congratulations!

Hi Curt! I do remember you from browsing these forums (didn't officially join until 2004). Herzlichen Glückwunsch zu deiner Hochzeit! (Pardon my familiarity, we're all friends here at AG, right? )
Wow, thousands of people get married after first meeting online, but I wonder how many couples met on adventure gaming forums?

They never married. The other one wasn't on this site.

Squarejaw and Mira?
Really? I mean, if I remember Curt (and perhaps vaguely Iris), I would've thought you'd been around here to see them... But then again, you weren't even here to *gasp* see the birth of The Thread (I forget how to make the (tm) mark), so maybe it was before your time but not much (considering it was SJH who started the Thread, and assuming it was them you talked about). I guess it wasn't that long after making the Thread that they kinda vanished. I guess Squarejaw saw his work was done upon creating The Thread and knew he just couldn't achieve anything Higher. (Edit): Ah, I see my intitial thoughts were correct, as Jelena points out below... Last edited by UPtimist; 10-31-2009 at 04:15 AM. |

I joined the forums in 2006 and they were regulars then. Mira lived in Moscow and SJH in England. Mira later changed her forum name (during the time when many of us did) but I can't remember what she changed it into.
