Default Suggest a Horror Movie !

Friday's already here! and I am digging threads and review sites to stack up a good set of horror movies.. Movies that have an after-effect and become the talk for days...

Not looking for slashers, looking for something completely EVIL, something so demonic, so possessed that it creates an eerie aura around the room.

The last few movies that had me interested till the end were:

Evil Dead 1, 2 and 3 (not so much)

Drag me to Hell

House on a Haunted Hill

Brain Dead / Dead Alive

Constantine

Skin Walkers

Now your turn !

Event Horizon - It's sci-fi as well but horror is the main theme and it should carry you right through.

In the Mouth of Madness - A slow burner but very disturbing.

By a complete coincidence those are both films that star Sam Neill. Anyone know if he's done any other good horror films?

Hoo hoo, I love horror but I'm not easily scared. So here's my list of films that genuinely scared me. I'll not elaborate on them as they're best served cold.

A Tale of Two Sisters (Korean film)
These 3 have certain similarities but they're the best of their ilk.
Ringu (Japanese version) and The Ring (American remake is pretty good too)
Ju-On (Japanese version)
Dark Water (Japanese version)
[rec] (Spanish film)
The Blair Witch Project (some hate it, but I loved it)

There are loads out there and 'scary' is very subjective but I'd highly recommend the above. If there's anything I've missed I'll report them later

A few I enjoyed but didn't scare me as much!
28 Days Later
The Descent
Sixth Sense
Signs
The Village
The Orphanage

Probably an obvious one, but... The Exorcist? One of my favourite demonic horror films. Made my mum quite uneasy after she watched it for the first time. She felt there was something in her apartment watching her. It was imbedded in my mind after I first watched it.

Missed that one Gazzoid. My mum watched it in a pub with friends and it absolutely terrified her to the core. She actually couldn't sleep with the lights off for days apparently. There's a certain aura around The Exorcist which makes it more unsettling than many other horrors.

Also, some more oldies:
The Wicker Man (the old one, NOT the remake with Nicholas 'Beige' Cage)
Rosemary's Baby
The Shining
The Thing
Dawn of the Dead (the original is great)

Some may recommend Don't Look Now but I don't rate it particularly. Drag Me to Hell was a really great 'leave your brain at the door' horror film. Some cracking cat scares.

I've seen The Ninth Gate. It's alright I guess. The ending leaves you a bit confused and some questions are left unanswered.

One cannot see a thread like this and not recommend Argento, I especially recommend Suspiria.

Carpenter has done some great stuff too like The Thing and the already mentioned In the Mouth of Madness.

Romeros Night of Living Dead series is great zombie movies but I don't know if that's what you're looking for.

I also recommend Necronomicon, it's based on three Lovecraft novels and features Jeffrey Combs as Lovecraft himself. It's a little hard to find but well worth the search. Stuart Gordon has also done some movies based on Lovecraft, Re-animator and Dagon. They aren't really that good but still worth a look.

I really loved "Untraceable", a psychological thriller that really made me reflect on human society, and how we'd let that happen, and even help. I'd really recommend it.

It's about an internet killer, who shows killings live on the internet. And the more people that watch, the faster they die...

I am going to look up Suspiria, saw Argento! (we need a thumbs up icon)
Is Necronomicon, the same one as in Evil Dead?

I really liked that one! Sam Neill was great!

And this reminds me: have you seen In the Mouth of Madness by John Carpenter?

Ooooh. I saw bits and pieces of "The Hills Have Eyes", and it haunts me in a bad way. I didn't enjoy it, but then again, just because
Spoiler:
disformed people were raping that one girl, then they put that other guy on fire.
*shivers* And I don't usually mind scary/gory films.

*shiver* I've never seen Hostel, not even sure what it's about. I really don't mind all the gore and stuff, like Saw, but the
Spoiler:
rape
was just over the line for me into distasteful.
