Do you use twitter?

You've probably heard about twitter by now -- if not from the bazillion newspaper and magazine articles on it, then perhaps from its recent featuring on Oprah. The hype is getting rather annoying but it doesn't take away from the fact that for many people it's a very enjoyable service.

I personally use twitter a lot and many people from the games industry are on it as well, but I'm wondering how widespread its use is amongst Adventure Gamers visitors (if at all?). Maybe @AdventureGamers should exist. :)

RLacey 04-20-2009 02:49 PM

I use it, though I'm not (at present) sure why.

Giligan 04-20-2009 02:59 PM

No, mainly because the cell phone is my friends' gadget of choice, not the computer. Most of them aren't even on Facebook. So there wouldn't be much point in me being on.

Squinky 04-20-2009 04:07 PM

I do, but I'm also an industry person.

Fantasysci5 04-20-2009 04:07 PM

No, I don't. Facebook is as much online social interaction as I want. And I'm not even exactly sure what it is. I was under the impression that it was a kind of blog.

rlpw 04-20-2009 06:12 PM

I use Twitter for updates from place like Gizmag, the local TV station, and to keep up with my man-crush on Neil Gaiman.

Melanie68 04-20-2009 06:26 PM

I don't use it a lot, but I follow Sam and Max, Telltale games, Neil Gaiman, Geordie Leforge (i.e. Levar Burton), Wil Wheaton and a few other people I've met online. I don't document my every footstep, but once in a while, it's a great place for an interesting comment. Sam and Max's updates are funny and it's interesting to follow down-to-earth celebrities. Apparently, Shaq's updates are funny too.

I don't use it. I don't see the point. I already post far too much about myself in this forum; why let the rest of the world know about my adventures in life? ;) Besides, all my friends use email and cell phones to communicate and don't have time for things like MySpace, FaceBook and Twitter.

Lucien21 04-20-2009 10:22 PM

I think it's a pointless fad that will hopefully disappear soon. Or at least they will stop going on and on about it on the radio/papers etc.

I don't really see the point of it. Is it a blog, but in short bursts? Is it a livejournal type diary thing? Text messaging to the masses? What's the point of them?

Do people really need to hear what you are doing every second of the day?

kuze 04-20-2009 10:31 PM

I'm using mainly to stay up to date with what's happening in the electro music world. It's priceless to be able to speak with famous producers through twitter.

For me, it's like an RSS feed for people. Just like with feeds, i don't need 90% of the information I'm getting, but it sure feels nice to have it. And Lucien21, the power of Twitter is in it's userbaswe and shortness of messages that make posting updates so easy. I'm not going to blog about that movie I saw yesterday (..I'm not going to blog period), but to drop a line on twitter and recieve some feedback in a matter of minutes is great.

No I don't use it.... my cell phone wont do that. Most of my are on here or on facebook. The ones that aern't there I see at work. :D

Oh and Mel.... I grew up watching those guys Wil Wheaton and Geordie LeForge ( Star Trek) The next Generation

Jazhara7 04-21-2009 02:58 AM

I have an account, but I don't use it.

DustyShinigami 04-21-2009 03:43 AM

Nope. Don't use it. I have a Facebook account and i hardly even use that.

UPtimist 04-21-2009 05:22 AM

Either I never understood what it is or then I just don't get at all what the point is... Seems completely pointless to me.

Marek 04-21-2009 07:01 AM

The appeal of Twitter seems hard to explain. I didn't care about it or understand why people used it. Then I started using it myself and it's become my main source of research for my job as well as my favorite communication tool on the internet.

It does seem utterly useless from the outside, though. Most people pitch it as "now you can tell people what you had for breakfast this morning!" which seems like a pointless waste of time. Even when you do sign up for it you have to get out of it what you want by following the right people.

Jelena 04-21-2009 08:32 AM

I don't use it. I'm not even familiar with Facebook.

It's true.

Squinky 04-21-2009 09:36 AM

Pretty much what Marek said, for me. I suspect it's not the social network itself that matters so much as the people you communicate with when you use it.

Incidentally, using Twitter causes me to (automatically) update my status on Facebook more often, meaning I'm getting more use out of that social networking site as well.

Just me posting updates for now, but perhaps we can share the account amongst the AG team if it turns out to be a useful thing to have. :)

aries323 04-22-2009 12:12 PM

No, I don't use Twitter; I simply don't have the time to do this. I'm online here and other game sites like rpgcodex and the bioware forums. And I don't really care what Ray Muzyka (the co-founder of Bioware) had for lunch or what the developers at Bioware had for breakfast....

The problems with fads is that they're probably going to stick around; I bet many of you also thought that Facebook was going to be a fad that would be over soon...

colpet 04-24-2009 06:48 AM

Now that I know what it is, I do not see the point of something like that. But then, I barely know what facebook is, I use a cell phone less than 5 minutes a year, and have never considered text messaging.
