Andrea, can you tell us who made the other paintings in the hotel? Maybe that's a hint.

Oh, wow, you people are really fussing around a lot over this.
Perhaps you should just try to contact someone on the development team of the game and ask about it? |

Which would be one more hint (in addition to many people having a hunch) that it is in fact a Monet painting, or a piece of a larger Monet, as a few suggested. |

Yes. That's what I think.

I was looking at a site called Moby Games and they have a list of people who worked on it, I am not sure who [the technically term] is responsible for the artwork on the walls but the Lead 3D Environment Artist is Aubrey Pullman and it looks like you can get in contact with him, maybe asking him if he knows.

Pfff,I looked through more than 50 pages of Monets on Europeana but I haven't found her. I guess our painting is no Monet. I wonder if it isn't a Van Gogh. I know he was Dutch but he lived in France for a long time and made a lot of paintings in the style of the one we are looking for.

I totally forgot to tell you that I have an answer from the art expert I told you about (the mother of the girl friend I visited). She says that she can't find a Monet with the girl in it, and we could try Berthe Morisot or Mary Cassatt, who is the American girlfriend of Degas.

Did a large-ish search on Morisot and a smaller search on Cassatt, but couldn't find anything... I think Morisot looks more promising, especially since she fits the profile of a French impressionist (Cassatt being American, as tsa said).

I likewise tried Morisot but with no luck. Later today, I have to try Cassat...

Frederico Zandomeneghi? Wow. I love art, but I was leaning towards a Dega myself. Glad you guys figured it out. We have such sharp folks here.

That was an excellent mystery and a great find - just like an adventure game! While I was reading the thread, I had thought it might be Lilla Cabot Perry because of some similarities in style.
This is the first I've heard of Zandomeneghi, but I really like his work. It seems that the majority of his paintings and drawings are of females. Over the years I've bought, from various museum shops, notecards and calendars with women reading as the theme. I'm surprised that I haven't seen any of his works used because he has many that would be appropriate.
