How is everyone doing? What are you doing?

I owe an update with me. Work is going fine, nothing glamourous. Nanay is getting on well, the usual spoiling of me and torturing her with hugs.

She and her next-door-neighbour friend gave me a fish for my birthday. I decided he's Italian and named him Gianfranco Isda. Very friendly fellow, nudges himself against the glass when I tap on the bowl and put my face close to it. He's no kitten (thus can't hug him) but he's very pleasant to have around.

Also got myself a new HDTV for gaming and am very pleased with it. Once I acquire a 5.1 speaker system and 5.1 headphones I need nothing else for the next few years. Finished Bioshock a while back, finished the main story quest of Oblivion (after over 350 hours invested) and plan on playing the Shivering Isles expansion pack most likely after finishing Mass Effect. Will be getting The Orange Box when it launches, then Assassin's Creed the second week of November before finally plunging myself in Mass Effect on the 20th of that month.

I'm currently 'back in school', taking an intensive docent training course at the Pacific Asia Museum. Hopefully I'll be certified in early February next year to lead tours for students and adults as well as hold workshops for school kids. The people I met there are amazing. A fellow trainee is this old Japanese American guy who has a Masters in Japanese woodblock, another is an American woman who had lived with her husband in Southeast Asia for years and studies symbology in Asian art, and another young woman is, I think, Vietnamese American and holds a degree in Art History from UC at Irvine.

In short, these are my people, very knowledgeable, cultured, multicultural, actively pursuing betterment, and very, very warm and friendly and accepting of the world. Can't find a better environment to better myself in.

Is it one of those Betta fish? My mom has one of those and his name is Pierre (whereas my 6-year-old nieces's fish is named Splash).

Yup, that's a Betta fish (I think I'm spelling that correctly).

Wasn't a TV show episode being taped in your apartment building, Trep? How'd that go, and did you get your mug into any of the scenes?

LOL! No, but they might as well have taped on here.

Funny you should ask. There is actually another filming going on outside my window. They've doing this for the past few days and again I have no idea if it's for a TV show, a commercial, or something else. They're always filming here!

I keep joking to Nanay to head outside and maybe they'll use her as an extra and she can make $50. If she's lucky she may become the next TV star. LMAO!

What's going on with you, Gilsie?

Almost nothing, unfortunately. Researching various universities, deciding which ones to apply to; playtesting a lovely AG forum member's game; trying my hand at making my own amateur adventure game, and still recovering from an Outward Bound Wilderness course.

How is it that you chose to take that wilderness course?

Basically, a family member who had done an Outward Bound course in the 1980s encouraged me to look into it, and when I did, I said, "Wow! This looks awesome!" And it was, although at times excruciatingly difficult. Everything it was supposed to be, though.

What did you gain from it? Sounds like an experience designed for self discovery.

It certainly is that. The instructors really pounded into the students' heads the saying "There's more to you than you know." It's the whole direction of Outward Bound, to walk away with the confidence that you can really do anything. (People who say "I can't do it" really annoy me now, if they can. ) If nothing else, I found I can jump into the North Atlantic every morning.

And they had a few other things, like a tour of Seguin lighthouse and a lecture at the Lobster Conservation establishment. That was incredible.

How so very sexy of you! Sounds like something many of us should undertake, though it's good to know you don't have to do something extreme like that to do so. One of my life's goal is to sky dive. Don't know when that'll happen but I want it to.

Still, I do already feel good for undertaking this volunteer position at the museum. One of the things that greatly disappoints me is the utter lack of culture and awareness of the world in people today. I want to at least do something small about it, and if one, just one, kid walks out of that museum from my tour feeling enriched, I know that I made some kind of difference.

I already have. He seems quite happy.

That picture is not of him. Found it through Google just to show what kind of fish he is (he's also red like in the pic).

Oh Trepsie..... I bet your fish is a cutie. I love watching fish, they just seem graceful. I'm glad that you are back. Glad to hear that you’re "Back in School" so to speak...

Glad to hear that you are doing well.
