Default Spot the fake smiles.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/humanbo...es/index.shtml

You get 20 miniscule movies of people of different ages, race, gender etc. who begin to smile. You have to ascertain which of them are faking it and who are genuine. It is a good exercise if you have a little time to spare. It is based on the research of a certain Prof. Paul Eckman (does HL2 ring a bell ?).

I got 8 out of 20 correct. I'm not that good with people.

Try it out.

11 ...

I thought most of the smiles that ended very abruptly were fake. I don't know many people who can turn from smiling to being serious that fast. Most smiles linger for a while (like 2 seconds) ... at least that's what I thought.

Hah! 18. And one of those I didn't get because the animation never played... This just goes to show you that the time I have spent in coffeeshopt analyzing people is paying off quite nicely. My name is Kingzjester Rex Mundi! Ha-ha!

Besides there is this very annoying thing nice women like to do in America, it really goes against my grain: A smile for them is a kind of salutation, alas they don't know how to smile so it seems like an uncontrollable twitch. You'd be pushing a cart in the supermarket and somebody in a vanilla blazer dressed for success will cut you off and give you an evil spasmodic grin - from prissy and irritated it jumps like a spark to this fake smile and it wanes instantaneously - and usually you shudder... Or at least I do.

18 out of 20 as well. I mostly decided by the eyes.
One guy fooled me for a second but I already had pressed 'next' too early... And the other I got wrong I thought I had answered the way it was ...

12/20, now that I'm no wiser than a fool, even a royal one (no offence ).

And one thing, after watching those people for a while, I subconsiously smiled too

15 out of 20, which is probably quite good given my bad mood, extreme pessimism and the fact that I was expecting to do badly.

My thoughts exactly... and 14 out of 20 correct with this...
4 of them were fake and I took them for real, and the other 2 were genuine but I took them for fake...

I got only 10/20, but I can say that on a better day I would've gotten 14/20...

<-- fake smile

<-- real smile

If I ever met a replicant now, I think I'd be able to tell if he was fake.

I got 14/20. I think the whole test is kind of shifty, though.

I mean... the people who were smiling "for real." How "real" do they mean? For a legitmate reaction, neither real smilers or fakes ones wouldn't keep their eyes focused on the camera like that. All of the smiles that were shown seemed ultra-controlled.... Even the real ones hardly seemed legitimate and spontaneous.

It just bugged me that they were clinically defining a sort of happiness.

Maybe I'm weird?
