Hmm...what is one's own language? Do you have to design one? Or do you mean one's native/mother tongue? I think I'm about as proficient in English as I am in Serbian, so I would really call either my own.

Oh, and here is my signature written in my own language, or shall I say in the script I invented:

111 17 12 15 0 13 0 19 1

Toliko za sada.

Maquisard 05-16-2007 04:23 PM

Ooh, I just noticed in the Cinema vs Theater thread the idea was to speak only Germanic languages, and try and make sense of that. In that case I guess I only have English to contribute. :D

Meh, screw that.

Prijatno, i laku noc.

Sweeds is so bietjie makliker.

samIamsad 05-16-2007 11:15 PM

There's no chance in hell that I could ever get a grasp of Serb- and Finntalk in here. But contrary to the Dutch stuff, I didn't get behind the meaning of a single sentence in either Norsk nor Sweeeeeetish. That is: So far. I'm depressed now.

Scheisse (s'cuse me, ma'am.) :frown:

jacog 05-17-2007 04:37 AM

NOTE: As far as this little experiment goes, it does seem that most people can communicate okayish (written, at least) using their own Germanic language... English being the exception, I dare say.

Jazhara7 05-17-2007 04:48 AM

Though English is a Germanic language too.

It's just hard to judge if we'd understand it as well as the other languages if we didn't know it already. But since all of us do understand English pretty well, it can't really be counted in this experiment.

Trumgottist 05-17-2007 04:49 AM

I know, but someone on this thread who only speaks English would have more trouble with the other languages. It's just too different I think.
