The SciFi 25
The top 25 sci-fi movies and TV from the past 25 years
I like a lot of what's on there but I always think it's a challenge ranking things like that (because it would be different for many different people). Why, oh why did they put Starship Troopers on there? |

Oh great, another pointless top <how many ever> <what ever>
I'm already only to #23 and realize that I've never cared for Dr. Who, but it's surely on other peoples top list. I have my own list--I don't need to see someone elses. And yet, I will continue reading. *sigh* |

Either that list is a horrible joke, or I'm not realizing how sparse good sci-fi there is. Some of those I wouldn't even call sci-fi.
It's also missing Solaris. |

Please tell me it's a joke. Galaxy Quest? C'mon. This list looks a lot more like it
http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20036782_20037403_285332,00.html I gotta give em' a high five on that list for putting 'Slaughterhouse 5' in the list Last edited by rlpw; 05-06-2007 at 08:10 PM. |

And Silent Running, Soylent Green, Dune, and for keerist sake, what about 2001: A Space Odyssey? Then there's The Red Planet, War of the Worlds, and what the fuh about no mention of Star Wars (huge vehicle it is, but quite a significant Sci-fi milestone none the less)?

Considering the list is from the last 25 years and some of those movies you listed are more than 25 years old...
Lazy reader(s). There's a SciFi top 100 list on there in the side bar which will likely have many of those movies. Edit: rlpw linked to it in his post. |

QUANTUM LEAP (1989-1993)
Oh yes! I absolutely loved that show and I agree about the Best Bit: "THE BEST BIT Season 2's ''Catch a Falling Star'' let Bakula flaunt his Broadway background, as Sam leaped into an actor playing Don Quixote in Man of La Mancha." That was most definitely the best episode of the show.

They missed out on Sunshine! </irrelevant, irritating fangirl babble>
I suppose it's not fair to demand it in there by a long shot. Not only is it getting slammed by critics (boo, critics!), it's not even out yet in the US, and won't be until September. Boo, filmindustry!

While I liked both Galaxy Quest and Futurama, those are both actually parodies (Galaxy Quest more so than Futurama), and don't really belong there.
Oh, and Starship Troopers is a perversion that doesn't even deserve to be called a movie. -

Also, what the heck? Battlestar Galactica first started in 1978, not only 2003!
But that aside, I protest that they did not include "Metropolis" in that list. It's way better than many of those. -

Am I the only one here that thinks that Starship Troopers is extremely clever?
It would appear so. |

Well, it might be clever if you watch the whole thing...but I never really manage to do so. I always shiver and make scared little noises when they shoot that one guy in the head, and I have to turn it off. Maybe I'll try and watch it completely next time it is on TV, and tell you what I think of it then. -

Watch it! The only movie I've ever seen in cinema. Thrice, that is. So, it's a list. Here my 2cents: They most likely absolutely most definitely pretty much and so on missed out on the last true Corman classic "Galaxy Of Terror", the movie that blasts "Alien" into space, if I ever saw one. HONEST. Pop culture legacy: Unit director James Cameron got maggots to wriggle on a severed arm by passing an electric current through it, impressing a couple of producers and earning him his next job. And so a career was born. (thanks to imdb.com) The best bit: You'll know it when you see it, trust me on that one.

I appreciate Verhoeven's trademark bits in the movie, for example the tv commercials within the movie, but as a whole I didn't think it was a good movie.

You've gotta be frakkin' kidding me. They had space for Quantum Leap but not Babylon 5? And no way is Battlestar Galactica number 2. There was a case to be made for that a year or two ago, but it's gone so completely off the rails by now that it's lucky to get into a top-25 list at all. But honestly- Babylon 5 is overlooked? It's the single greatest achievement in sci-fi TV, and they leave it out for E.T.. Look, I like these movies and TV shows as much as the next guy, but this is supposed to be a "best of" list! Whatever.

Yes it did. But, they considered the new series to be better (in their opinion) and this list is from the last 25 years (i.e 1982-2007). They also have a place where you can make a case for something they left off the list (at the bottom of the page).

Ah, I see. But they had Doctor Who listed from 1963-present. Don't worry, I'm not complaining about that last bit. They couldn't very well leave out the beginning years when they included the rest of the series that was in the timeframe, after all. -

Another thing, just to emphasize how completely random this list is: Star Wars: Clone Wars was great, but it wasn't even Genndy Tartakovsky's best science fiction work. It seems to only be on the list because they wished they could put Star Wars on the list but didn't like the prequels enough to.
