Internet Explorer is bugging me!!!
I don't know why, but everytime I need tech support I always come here :D
Anyways, can anybody help me? IE is annoying the heck out of me, and I have no idea what to do with it. The problem starts with IE keeps opening pop-ups automatically on its own. I don't use IE as I am more of a Firefox user. It started getting on my nerve of late because IE just opens up websites without my control... even when I am not using IE. Believe me, I've tried a lot of pop-up blockers, but to no avail. IE continued annoying me this way. Up to a point I decided to uninstall IE completely from my computer. I thought my problem was solved. Imagine my shock when one day IE opened another pop-up... even though I've removed it from my computer. It's like the stupid thing is determined to make my life miserable! I tried to ignore it and ignore my annoyance. But two days ago, it made an unforgivable thing. While I was doing my work, IE opened a pop-up automatically on its (yes, it's still "removed" from my computer)... and my anti-virus program immediately went nuts! It seems that the pop-up IE had happily and helpfully opened for me contained a worm. I can't remember what worm. I remember feeling shocked and pissed off, though. Thankfully my anti-virus curbed it before it could enter my system. So yeah, if anyone has any helpful advice for me, please please please tell me. :frown: |
Sounds like adware to me, that would mean you're already infected. I recommend Spybot Search and Destroy, or Ad-aware to detect and remove spyware/adware.
|
Thanks, I'll try that.

Sounds like you're indeed infected with a trojan or some other form of adware.
Also, you can't really un-install Internet Explorer as it's an integral part of Windows. Your file explorer (My Computer, My Documents, etc..), uses the same engine as IE. --Erwin |

It's probably best to use them in combination, usually starting with Ad-Aware, and then when that is finished, scanning the system again with Spybot. Yes, I know Ad-Aware complains about Spybot being installed. - :) :) :) :) :) :) :) |
I have been using Grisoft's Free Antivirus and Spyware software with good success and they have put out a rootkit for detecting malware that hides in the system and is hard to detect. You can find all of them Here
It also might be a good idea to check your firewall settings. I have seen a few times where trojans have a wonderful time turning off your firewall and then you have IE messenger pop ups. They look like IE windows but are actually random IE messages that are sent randomly to IP's in hopes of opening a window. |

Then I think I'll have to kick my sister. She's responsible for installing both on my computer. :shifty: - :) :) :) :) :) :) :) |
Um, I think you are using the wrong browser. IE is shit.
You better download Mozilla Firefox or Opera. Here are the links: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/ - Mozilla Firefox download www.opera.com/download/ - Opera download Enjoy! |

It's not possible to uninstall IE on Windows- Windows is designed that way. The operating system uses IE for all sorts of internal functions which really shouldn't be connected to a browser framework. So if IE ever starts acting up (which is much too common even for people who rarely use it), the only solution to the problem is to reinstall Windows. In my house we've got a computer where IE stopped accepting any Javascript scripts, and as a result all sorts of random programs (including the anti-virus program) permanently stopped working. I hate Windows.
And to repeat what has already been said: get an anti-spyware program. With Microsoft software, you'll need it. |
Actually, it *is* possible to uninstall IE, using this program series:
Lite PC It also makes several other Windows components uninstallable as well that aren't by "default". I use it on my machine, and it helps things run faster/more stable. There's versions for 98, 2000, and XP. Peace & Luv, Liz |

I use Windows only for games, Mac and Linux for the rest.
|
Me three!

Internet Explorer is definitely mocking me :shifty:
As you guys suspected, I was indeed plagued by a Trojan and some spywares. So I've scanned and removed them. I thought everything's hunky dory. Ironically enough, right after my Ad-Aware reported to me that it has downloaded and installed some new definitions, as I was just doing my work... POP! IE pop-up is set to annoy me for the rest of my life :( |

These were meant to be inter-office messages that were found to be a vulnerability and shut off. You also might want to do a root check just to be sure AVG Free Anti-rootkit |
Reading this I'm once again glad I'm on Linux, and even more glad that I'm switching to Mac.
|
And if you do reinstall Windows, do yourself a favor and stop using IE.
