Default Where the hell is the Super Bowl thread?!

Hah! Sorry, couldn't even keep a straight face through to the message text. I honestly couldn't care less about the Super Bowl (and whether that's because I'm a geek, gay, or some freakish combination of both, I'll let you decide), and would have rather it not aired at all, if it meant I could see a new episode of The Simpsons instead (for the uninitiated, the show airs Sunday nights at 8:00pm).

So, what about you?

Heh... actually, I had the TiVo record it then fast forwarded through the game so I could watch the ads. Very disappointing this year. The only one I actually liked was the Staples ad with the mafia-esque guy controlling the office supply closet

Oh... and laughing at the Cialis ads. Whoever thought a Viagra clone that lasts 48 hrs. was a good idea deserves a good laughing at

Speaking of which, iFilm has all of this year's ads here.

This is the only thing I've read anywhere about the Superbowl tut!tut!!

Now if that wasn't planned then I'm an Orange Juice-mixed-with-beer drinker.

"It was a wardrobe malfunction." Aha... Sure.
Probably the worst publicity stunt I have seen since The Kiss.
This time it failed, though. Haha.

I didn't even know it was Superbowl weekend until I read it on NYT. And [glances over at zara] it's not the fact that I'm nellie or geeksian or a combination of both. Hell, Queer Eye was on and I didn't give a damn. Hmmm....

That's it! I NEVER watch television! Ever!

Super Bowl Ads Fall Flat

Morning Edition audio
Feb. 2, 2004

Quote:
In a change from previous years, the Super Bowl's closely matched game seemed more exciting than the expensively produced TV commercials, some of which had aired previously. NPR's Bob Edwards reviews the ads with Bernice Kanner, author of The Super Bowl of Advertising: How the Commercials Won the Game.

I know only two things about the Superbowl match last night.

A) That Janet/Justin stupidity.

B) Some naked guy running in the field or something like that

My friend watched the whole match last night and he said that the director of the cameras was a bit like Hank Hill from King of the Hill, always under pressure when something unexpected occured like facts A and B, then the cameras were turned towards the audience and such...

Um is it weird to anyone else that "I didnt even watch TV on Sunday" isn't an option? It assumes you were watching TV for at least part of the time during the super bowl

I put it on for about five seconds, just to confirm my suspicion that American Football is the worst sport ever created. Yes, even worse than golf.

The streaker sounds like the highlight of the evening and the director would be mad to shy away from it. (Thankfully, British broadcasters seem to understand this.)

That RIAA/Pepsi commercial is SCARY.....

And moveon.org didn't get to air its ad....

(I didn't watch this or anything, btw. I just heard from someone that the above was noteworthy. American ads in general annoy/irritate/scare me)

I could almost say: What's the superbowl? Almost, because I'm pretty sure it's about (american) football.

This particuliar Super Bowl will be considered as one of the best, and the most exciting ever. What used to be known as the Super Bore, 3 of the last 6 games have been classics. Granted this followed 32 of them that were mostly blow outs.

The question I have is which is more exciting, a TV commercial or a suckor (sp) game?

I am happy to announce that until I stuck it on last year, I thought it was baseball.

There's obviously something wrong with us, Titan, because we watched and enjoyed the Super Bowl. Must be something wrong with the other billion-plus people who did the same thing.

Of course, had it been carried by as many foreign networks, I'm sure that more people would have watched the three-hour Queer Eye for the Straight Guy mini-marathon on NBC. Or even the eight-hour QEftSG marathon on Bravo, followed by four hours of gay weddings.

Or we could have done something more "normal" like simply turning our TV's off and not watching America's premiere sporting event. Then we could have gotten all smug and superior and condescending toward those pathetic, lowbrow, retarded rejects who did watch it.

Now, BJ, we know you suffered through the Super Bowl, simply to be able to communicate with the patrons of your establishment. You needn't make it sound as though you actually enjoyed such a mundane display. Perhaps in your sociological/anthropological analyses of this event, you will better understand the mores of the populace. We know that your intellectual pursuits would supercede such middle-class entertainment. 8-)
