I'm from Denmark, but I try to answer your quesion, anyway And this is NO way a recommendation to do any drugs AT ALL. It is means to be meant as an answer to a question.

I think the Dutch law on this is very clear. You're allowed to have a very small amount of dope (or what you call it) for personal use. I think, maybe about ½-1 gram or so.

What even more interesting is Holland is one of the European countries where drug addicts (junkies etc) can go to a doctor (I think) and get injected with the stuff, they need to survive. Only the 'hard' or 'long-term' addicts can get this, I believe? (this really should be in thread of its own, I think...)

The impact of this, I think, is that crimes have gone down a bit, since addicts, junkies etc. no longer needs to steal stuff --- to sell - for pennies - so that they are able to survive i.e. buy 'hard' drugs. (bu 'hard' drugs, I mean cocaine, heroin and stuff like this)

State fueled addiction. Not my idea of fun, but dope never was that addictive to me, it's just something I do like every month to clear my head. No, I don't want to be a dope dealer.

What do you think of the Serbian song?
You can find the lyrics and English translation on the official site of Eurovision 2007...

I would've preferred for that Nebo song to represent us.

Sadly I will be missing the first hour and a half of it. Not that it matters much, since I can watch all the songs online (though that would deprive me of the live screw-ups, such as the UK managed when it gained no points a couple of years back).

OK, a tray with cheese (one of those cheeses is smelling so bad, I do hope it tastes good) and crackers is prepared as well as a bottle of wine.
A big bowl of Danish Haribo candy is standing on the table in front of the TV. (Ha ha Mr J just called from the kitchen: Gaaah that cheese is smelling!!)

I guess we're all set for some Eurovision.
Good Night!

I don't know why I'm watching this. I'm blaming you Lena! It's all your fault, showing me that Swedish entry that I liked.

What a terrible opening song from Bosnia.

Jat
I take full responsibility for misleading you in life when it comes to Eurovision anyway. I don't think The Ark did a good performance and Ukarine just made me leave the TV.
I'm going to take my dog for a walk now.

Btw, we had to throw away that cheese.

So, the votes are in and Serbia won. Not that close to my favourites, but acceptable. These ten qualified to the final next year:
PLACING COUNTRY POINTS
1 Serbia 268
2 Ukraine 235
3 Russia 207
4 Turkey 163
5 Bulgaria 157
6 Belarus 145
7 Greece 139
8 Armenia 138
9 Hungary 128
10 Moldova 109
If you could give out all the votes, how would you do it? (12,10,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 - or top ten)

Here are mine:
Sweden - The Ark 12p.
Hungary - Nagdi Ruzsa 10p.
Finland - Pakarinen 8p.
Moldova - Barbu 7p.
Slovenia - Gotar 7p.
Germany - Cicero 6p.
Serbia - Seritovic 5p.
Ireland - Dervish 4p.
France - Picards 3p.
Romania - Todomondo 2p.
Belarus - Koldun 1p. (mostly because I like the music, and remember the song.. hate him though)

All nordic countries have to qualify for the final next year.. :S

Holy crap!

Serbia won.

The show itself looked surpringly good, the stage was very well made and I especially thought that the screens were amazing. They should've showed the "fogwall" effect more. It was only in use in the opening intro when Lordi's excellent performance was on stage and on video.

But about Serbia, I still have to say this strange thing. I still don't know was the singer a man or a woman? I think they said his/her name was Maria, but I'm not sure as I'm a bit intoxicated?

I personally was hoping that Bulgaria would win with the drum duet, Moldova with the rock & sex appeal or the alpha males of Spain.

Now things go back to normal, Finland starts at the semifinals and does not qualify to the final in 2008.

It was a woman..

I HATED Bulgarias drum thingy, her screaming was horrible. I liked Moldova, even though I liked Finlands Rock and sex better. Spains boyband seemed a bit outdated and stupid..

Pretty sure it (I mean she) was a woman.

Russia: 12 points! Who can resist young chicks wearing suggestive clothing and warming up Europop leftovers_meets_a_little_bit_of_Garbage like that? Trashtastic!

Didn't see much of it, but then I don't think I've ever seen that show in its entirety... it's over, w0t now? Let's grab that cheese Mr.J has left!

But really, it was no big surprise that we got only so little points. We never even had a chance to win this thing.

Our hosts were hmmm, well Mikko Leppilampi was excellent, he is a professional actor after all, but Jaana Pelkonen was more bad than good. She was shouting all the time and trying to be too fake cheerful. They should've got some professional Finnish actress instead of her.

Next year has to be some drag queen stuff or something in order to win it.

Man, the Ukraine stuff was horrible, but to me so was Serbia.

I just know it that the tabloid press is going to especially concentrate on the fact that Finland got TWO points more than Sweden, ahh the old feud that they must always keep on going.

EDIT: One thing is for sure, I've never seen or heard in a Eurovision contest so much booing before. People definitely hated the tired old concept of giving 12 points to your neighbour country and that happened with almost every country.

Well, there's also the discussion about the semi finalists that made it into the finals, and about how many of them were from Eastern European countries. And then, if you take a look at the final standings, it's showing even there. Not that it is a problem.

Not that this is a problem at all. Eurovision is hardly a serious business. Wait.... you knew that already didn't ya? Anyway, it's another event created to entertain people, and give them the chance in participating in a fun continental "I have my saying in who's gonna win this!!!!1" game. Yupp, obviously it's the idealist in me speaking again. However, the problem for the makers of the show might occur once people (ie: right now Western Europeans) feel like this has gone too far at some point or other. Because at that point to many viewticipants (neologism rules, okay?) it stops being a fun game and starts being a farce.

Or as critics would have it: More a farce than it has ever been.

At least you shouldn't have to worry about that happening with Germany, Poland and Israel, what with them having been constantly at war with all their neighbours.

Didn't Denmark try that? You need to infer more conceptually, it has to be something ourageous in the country where it's from. Such as:

For Finland: Finntroll, since they sing in Swedish
For Norway: Burzum (especially considering that the guy's in jail)
For Germany: Bushido
For Poland: Graveland (especially for the satanic aspect)
For Russia: Tatu
For Israel: (happened already)

Quite true, but wasn't that Tatu already in Eurovision couple of years ago? I can't remember.

There's so much funny text in this news article.

Especially this gem:
Quote:
At times, their routine resembled liturgical dancing. At others, it seemed to be a slow-motion lesbian porn film.

Either way, it was a far cry from the "horror rock" style of last year's winners, Lordi.

The Finnish band kicked off Saturday's show at the Hartwall Arena, just outside Helsinki's city centre.

Kitted out in gruesome latex masks they put on a dazzling, theatrical show, which got the home crowd on their feet - flags proudly raised above their heads.

The performance was so dynamic it was in danger of overshadowing this year's crop of contestants.

I also wondered whether the lesbian overtones earned the performance all those votes.
