Default Warcraft 3 AGers tournament

Sigh. Opening a new thread because of this. In chit chat. Yes, I'm desperate.

Anyhoo, I recently thought it would be a fun idea to get a little fun tournament started some time during this Christmas season. As can be seen over here. What ya think? No, don't fear me. I'm crap.

At this point, I'd even be willing to finally get the goddamn expansion pack if necessary. Is anybody in here amongst the hundreds of thousands of people still playing this game? Even interested in a little fun tourney? Cool, that. Post in here!

Awww...now now, it's OK...

I don't own the game.

I take that as an "I'd like to join, but..", buddy.

The stoopid clan leader of the clan I joined this week had a clan tournament arranged for this evening. Eight people showed up. Ok, so we played our first games. After that, the leader decided to get angry. See he was "only" able to get these seven lost souls and himself playing WC3 on a Saturday evening before Christmas. And called it quits.

Bloody idiot. I think I'm going to quit.

Don't you love Christmas gaming? You should all organise a game of something that's not rubbish, unlike Warcraft III presumably is, and make it an annual tradition.

It can work as long as you don't standardise on Quake!!!! Even if you do, it'll be a roaring success until at least five years after Quake, or the standard fare of your choice, becomes incredibly antiquated and unplayable. Trust me!

Sorry for this. *push* Your Christmas trees might be all long gone and rotten, but the general purpose of this thread still stands.

Oh yeah... RoC or TFT, doesn't matter, I'll be getting TFT soon anyhow. Here's to you, a little laugh I missed myself until now.

You could count me in but I haven't played Warcraft3 in years. So I would suck.

You're toootally welcome! I'm not all that good, either. What's your race? Btw, recently upon connecting to Battle.net for the first time in two months, I noticed that there was a new patch. It doesn't alter much, but...

FEATURES
The game now runs natively on both PowerPC-based and Intel-based Macs.
Player can now view frames per second using the "/fps" chat command.
FIXES
Fixed a timing problem with the game on PCs with dual-core CPUs.
Fixed a crash that could occur with the Frost Breath ability.
Fixed a crash that could happen in multiplayer games.
Fixed an exploit that could happen in multiplayer games.

MAPS

New Maps:
(2)SecretValley
(6)BomberCommand

Map Changes:
(4)LostTemple (RoC)
The 4 Forest Troll Berserkers by the natural expansions now drop Level 2 Permanent instead of Level 2 Charged items.
(4)TurtleRock
The 4 Ogre Warriors along the outer pathways now drop Level 2 Permanent instead of Level 2 Charged items.
(6)GnollWood
The 4 Gnoll Brutes by the central Item Shops now drop Level 2 Permanent instead of Level 2 Charged items.

... the two new maps don't appear in my map folder. Maybe they're for TFT only? Also, Blizzard did reset the ladders on Sunday or so. If you want to climb on top, it's now or never (or the next reset).

Is there a way of doing a direct player to player (or players) link in Warcraft 3? I looked in the Battlenet section but all I could see was buttons to link me up with other players it considered to be my skill level.

Was looking to run a head to head battle against another friend but I might be up for a more open war sometime if I can find the time for it.

You guys can make the arrangements, I'll just tag along.

What time zones are you all in? GMT?

I'm on East Sussex time, not West Sussex time.

I know I haven't got a free slot in the coming week though. This weekend is all booked up already.

Yes, it took me some time to figure out myself, but there's a button for custom games. You can open one that's "private" and doesn't appear in the list of open custom games, so the players who want to join need to know its name.

PS: Oh, and just so you know.. the whole tournament thing, that was just a neat idea that crossed my mind at that point. We could also play fun games (never tried any of these yet, DotA, Tower Defense, what have you), or join each other as a fabulous AGers team, an unstoppable force spreading fear and terror all across the Battle.net (or at least surviving longer than five minutes against the CPU oponent on "don't hurt me!" level).

PPS: I'm Undead.

Ah, it's so obvious now!

Cheers for that.

I thought your avatar looked a bit pale.

Haven't really picked a Warcraft 3 favourite side yet but I suspect I'd be Undead as well. Always liked the Death Knights in the previous game. I presume you have player colours to distinguish between players using the same troops.

I caught it in winter.

Yupp. There's even an option that makes you and your allies all appear in blue colours and your enemies in red. This might come in handy in bigger matches like... 3vs3 or 6vs6 ( ), but I haven't used this feature yet. Good to know that you'll likely to play the Undead too. That means the Knight's hero_nuke™ (his Coil) won't work on your hero, since it only nukes LIVING units (and can also heal your own/ your allies undead troops) ...

I can join in if you need another player, but I play Humans only. And preferrably from this Sunday on, this computer I'm on wouldn't run W3 and I don't have the CDs here anyway. I used to play 2vs2 all the time.

Only ever played LAN games of Warcraft 2. (Played the original but only single player)

My absolute favourite was the time I sat a dragon over the main gold mine being used by one of my opponents. It took ages for him to work out his peons weren't coming back.

LOL! Surprisingly, that happend to me only once so far. I wonder if a Wand Of Negation can dispell it? Anti-magic shield of the Banshees works, but you've got to cast it before the enemy casts his polymorph. Alternatively, you could try to shred the opponent's spellcasters to pieces before he ever gets the chance to cast. By using Frost Nova or siege weapons, for example. Heheh... Anyway, The spells in that game sure are fun.

edit: Are you all playing "Reign Of Chaos" or "The Frozen Throne" or both? I still need to snatch a copy of the latter, which I'll do, and there are quite big differences in gameplay between those two.
