The worthless treasure thread
 

Admit it or not, people inevitable accumulate objects that, while not worth much, they consider treasure due to the fact that it's rare/sentimental/just plain cool. I'm curious what us forumites have collected in this wise. :P

For me, it's a original 1918 Swiss Army helmet. Items like that are great conversation pieces:

Visitor: Oh, wow! You have an Army helmet? That's so cool!
Giligan: Oh yes, that's an 88 year-old Swiss army helmet. You won't see things like this around anymore.
Visitor: OMG! That is just so cool!
Giligan: (nonchalontly) Ah, that's just a little peice of history, that's all that is.

Can I list my Hibben Scorpion dagger here even though I only look at it once a month (roughly) and it's actually worth roughly $100? Heh!

Does a Swiss Army helmet have all sorts of little tools and gadgets that swing out for your use?

I wouldn't be surprised if that's not worthless.

I seldom get attached to things. I'm not a collector, rather someone who throws away things before thinking.
When it comes to sentimental value I have two gold rings, my mother's and my mother-in-law's wedding rings. I've had both of them remodelled and I wear them always.

You can find them pretty cheap; most military antique collectors are more interested in German, Japanese, American or British gear. I've personally wanted a Martini-Henry Mark III for a long time, but they're just too darn expensive.

I've got so many worthless treasures, that I really don't want to get rid of.

those are neat!! and your trinket from Mexico is an Aztec calander.

My only actual thing I would hate to not have is my Geisha doll my father brought back from Japan. It's totally worthless but for some reason I cannot part with it. There is also my grandmother's etched glass bar set, I do not think it is worth anything but there beautiful.
I also have an origonal Barlow pocket knif that I am going to resore... one day.

Oh, I like that Black Knight. And the playmobil in the background. In the spirit of the complimetary thread, let me add that I have always found Jazhara7 to be utterly delightful.

All I have here along those lines is a few Kinder Egg toys. No photos yet. They're the few toys left I haven't yet given away to younger relatives, mainly because they live 3500 miles away.

I'm sure that I have some stuff, but I can't remember any of it off-hand (which shows how much of it I brought with me to university :crazy: ).

Several plush (or "stuffed") toy penguins from when I was but a baby. Other than that I can't really think of anything at the moment. Which is kind of depressing, really. I suppose I could count the penknife I have that was my grandfather's.

Less worthless stuff that I have includes some Maundy money from when the Queen spent Maundy Thursday at Portsmouth Cathedral. It's not a complete set, and it's been sitting in a safe since then, but it's not the kind of thing that I'll ever part with. Sadly, I never actually got to meet the Queen.

Oh, and I love the ultra-huge frame that you've given to that familiar photo beneath the Aztec calendar thing, Jaz.

Mang, I never realised that Maundy money was any different to standard-o coinage. Bet you'd have less luck spending it than those bloody Irish fivers (even if you wanted to).

You find that people stand outside the church after the service and attempt to buy the coins from the people who have just received them, which is rather sad.

Of course, they're far less interested in incomplete sets. And I got mine several weeks after the service (they sent some for everyone in the choir) :P.

I could dig them out and take some photos when I go home next month. If anyone is interested.

I had a Canadian coin around here somewhere, but it's long since gone on "The eternal patrol" :D .

I also have a veteran's hat that was my grandfather's, from the ship he served on in WWII. Pricelessy sentimental.

Hmm.. I collect a lot of things, but mostly things I think might be valuable some time in the future.

Right now I'm collecting:
Nemi magazines, books, calendars and such (I have the first Nemi magazine ever published, and that's going for about 500kr(77$) -1000kr(154$) in auctions now)
I also try to get hold of every "Kollektivet" magazine that get published, but I don't have any of the early magazines.. :(
Pixar movies - preferably in special versions
Dreamworks Animation movies - This one is just started
Walt Disney Treasures series
and other movies that come in special editions. Among the dvd's I have is; The collection of Lord of the Rings extended edition, the matrix trilogy 10 disk box set, Alien box set and Star Wars the original trilogy Box Set
Oh and we, my bf and me, collect Simpsons seasons. He already had the Futurama series before we met, so I can't really say I'm collecting that one (though I'd probably buy it if we'd split up)

Hmm.. unvaluable things I collect, well, I have a little stuffed animal collection, with many I don't want to part with. I can post some pics, but not just now, it's a bit dark, and I need to sort them first. They're sort of in a bundle.

I've also got a sudden fascination for turtles (or do I mean tortoises? :crazy: )
It's sort of new, so I don't have many, just some stuffed animal tortoises (or turtles?!?), but if I see some I'll probably pick them up..

That's because it actually has a comment written on the paper below it. The sheet itself is about A4 size.

That's from IKEA. I want one too, but probably will never get it.

Why does it seem I have all those lovely things everyone wants?

I don't care much for plush toys myself, but BoyToy does, so whenever I see a plushie he'd like, I get it him. That was one of them. :D

But my best plushie found so far is an Ouroboros - a ~30cm snake (out-of-characterly with a tiger snout) biting itself in the tail with help of a magnet snout- and tail-tip. I have three of those - one for me, one for BoyToy and one for Sulley Snugglemonster. :D
