I bought a Creative Fatal1ty Headset. It's nice (and it was cheap), though more than a tad over-branded.

Dear gods! We still have two of that type lying around here.

I don't suppose it's compatible with an actual AMIGA 500? Because I could use some new joysticks for it, the old ones are getting bad.

- :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

tsa 07-20-2008 04:37 AM

No, it's a joystick with an in-built Commodore 64 and 30 games on it.

Huz 07-20-2008 08:44 AM

I use Sega Mega Drive controllers for the Amiga, because there are lots of them around.

I bought an Xbox 360 last month but I've only played on it twice. Oh dear.

tsa 07-23-2008 10:25 PM

Yesterday I bought a sack of Crunchy:
http://www.goodnessdirect.co.uk/detail/553483b.jpg

Oh boy does that stuff taste good with yoghurt and brown sugar or what? :P :P :P

Jelena 07-30-2008 12:36 AM

You can call me Captain Jelena now! :)

tsa 07-30-2008 02:31 AM

What! Did you buy it?

Jelena 07-30-2008 03:28 AM

:) Yes we did! We traded the small (in excellent shape including a fast outboard motor from -07) boat and thus reduced our expenses to something manageable.

tsa 07-30-2008 04:15 AM

Fantastic! Congratulations! What will you call the new boat?

Jelena 07-30-2008 05:19 AM

Thanks tsa! :)
Today the boat is called Reubina. We thought about changing her name, but a friend told us that's bad luck. :frown:
There are a lot of superstition going on when it comes to boats and I've read about some of it: apparently there are procedures to rename a boat properly including driving it backwards and also banging a bottle of champagne on the front of the boat.
Anyway, we're kind of starting to like Reubina better and better so most likely she'll keep that name.

tsa 07-30-2008 05:48 AM

Reubina is not that bad. According to this webpage Reubina means: 'behold, a son.' Weird isn't it? Anyway, I think it's a nice name.

I prefer to use Behind the Name for stuff like that. Especially after seeing that some baby naming sites list "Andrea" as a girl's name meaning "Womanly" (it's actually a *male* name meaning "Manly", from the greek "Andros", referring to things male. As in "Android".).

So yeah, it seems to be based on a boy's name, "Reuben", which makes sense, considering it really does seem to mean "Behold, a Son" (which is rather a weird thing to say when it's a girl. *slaps forehead*).

Still, it's a very nice name anyway. Conga Rats, Jelensie!

Will you be inviting us to come alongside to partake of tea and nautical light refreshments?

Jelena 07-30-2008 07:55 AM

Why of course! If you don't mind sitting cramped.
We're serving: Tea, lemon wedges and Ships' biscuits.

Lady Kestrel 07-31-2008 10:33 AM

Reubina is very pretty, Jelena! Have fun with her.

Has anyone ever spent the exact amount of a gift card or certificate? I never seem to manage it. I wandered over to Barnes and Noble online yesterday, just planning to spend my $25 card on a couple of books for my book group, but ended up spending $62 more than the card amount. Book stores are dangerous places.

Jatsie 07-31-2008 10:59 AM

I find gift certificates offensive.

Trumgottist 07-31-2008 11:05 AM

Why?

Jatsie 07-31-2008 11:26 AM

Because it's a present with a condition attached. It's not just like giving someone money and saying "go out, buy whatever makes you happy". A gift certificate forces the recipient to conform to the overlying restrictive intentions of the giver, which goes against the spirit of gift giving.

It's comparable to governments which give homeless people food vouchers, because they can't trust them not to spend money on crack.

tsa 07-31-2008 12:17 PM

My father always asks book 'vouchers' for his birthday.

Lady Kestrel 07-31-2008 01:46 PM

Giving a gift certificate is no different than giving any other gift, Jat. It requires thought to give the right one. I have so many books that the chances of someone duplicating something I have is a big possibility, but my family and friends know that a gift card to a bookstore is always welcome.

tsa 08-08-2008 09:31 PM

I splurged on Sokoban for my phone yesterday evening.I love Sokoban; I can play it forever! There is also a free version of Sokoban for phones out there that I had for years, but the new one can import new levels. The interface is not as good as on the old game though. As there are thousands of levels to be found on the Interweb I can now have fun until either me or my phone dies.

tsa 08-13-2008 10:36 AM

Today I splurged on a speaker set for a computer, and an Apple Airtunes thingy:
http://i.i.com.com/cnwk.1d/sc/315755...overview-1.gif
http://arstechnica.com/reviews/004/a...ortexpress.jpg

I put the speaker boxes on the cupboard in the room where I always write, and connected them to the Airport Express. Now I have music in the room where I write!

Oooh.. O.o

Those speakers look spiffy. Were they very expensive? And are they any good?

I'm looking for some good speakers to finally bring proper dolby Surround sound that goes beyond two USB speakers standing in front of my screen (they're better than the speakers that are built into the screen, at least) to my computer, now that I have a game like Mass Effect. ^_^

Hey everyone...
I am at Tsa's at the moment and I splurged something too...

I have a camera now, how about that?? :)

Tsa already explained ome theoretical stuff and I made some pictures. Tomorrow we will go on a short trip and I will make pixies. I really wanted a camera for a long time, and I hope I can get into it.

They were 79 euros at Paradigit here in Enschede. It's the Creative I3800 set. And they are good IMO, but they're not surround sound; it's only a 2.1 set. So I guess you have to look a bit further.

Ooooh, nifty, Jatsie want. I'm always faffing around with cables to connect my laptop to my stereo in order to better enjoy my collection of MP3s.

Cute bunny btw. :)

How does one make Pixies without Pixie dust? O.o

-

They come pre-packaged at your local supermarket now.

Yes, this is much better. It only works with iTues though, which is a big disadvantage. You can also connect a printer to it, which is handy. Wireless printing!

O, and yes, Mister Rabbit is very cute. Cuddly too!

But... do the pixies you make make the pictures then?

Melanie68 09-01-2008 06:21 AM

I was in need of a new cell phone number and decided to get a new cell phone too (I've had mine for almost 4 years - and things have advanced since then).

Old Phone

New Phone
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...pearl_8130.jpg

I can check email, some of the internet (I haven't fully figured that out), I have the navigator things which rocks all kinds of things (I get lost easily) and I'm sure I can do other things I have yet to figure out.

tsa 09-01-2008 08:58 AM

Kinky! I have a Nokia that can do all that too. When I bought it I never thought I would use all that, but I do and it's fun.

You just get two guitars, a bass, and a drum kit and play music that has quiet verses and loud choruses with lyrics about unusual topics.

Cool phone (apart from colour :P )

Those Blackberry things are very popular but it just makes my boss check her email when she is on holiday. How sad is that?

RLacey 09-02-2008 02:28 AM

I too have joined (or will do as soon as the thing arrives) the new(er) phone crowd.

Out goes my decidely long-in-the-tooth Motorola v220...
http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/2...7lss400fd1.jpg

And in comes an HTC s710...

http://img120.imageshack.us/img120/8...250x275cr8.jpg

Now I just need to wait for the thing to turn up...

Trader 09-13-2008 08:54 AM

I just got series 4 of Stargate Atlantis with that roll up keyboard. I also got series 2 ot IT crowd.

tsa 09-20-2008 10:01 PM

Yesterday I splurged on a new digital camera, the Nikon D90, plus two lenses. I ordered it in a shop in Gronau, and since you can buy the camera in most Dutch webshops already I don't think I will have long to wait for it. If I have the thing before Wednesday the tele zoom lens will go on a safari in Tanzania with my brother!

Today I splurged on a new heavy-duty tripod for my new camera, a Vanguard Tracker I!

I too changed from, what I thought, was a smart phone(Dummy me didn't do his homework) the LG Envy
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t299/rlpw/envy.jpg
and switched to a real smart phone the Palm Centro.
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t...entro-spec.jpg
This thing is awesome and I cannot believe how small the apps are for it. I really wanted the HTC's G1
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t...4FC51E972C.jpg
but the only US Carrier who sells it does not have 3G internet in my area so they will not sell it here.Darn thing is exclusive.
