What's the latest news on him? Is he hopefully not in much pain? Is he still with us all? My heart goes out to you and your mom and, of course, to Max, sweet thing.

In evaluating accounting projects there is a concept called sunk costs. This means what you've spent already (and therefore aren't going to get back). Say you've spent £200 developing something and it will cost another £50 to finish it. If you finish it it is worth £100. If you don't it's valueless. It is therefore worth spending the extra £50 because, even though you still make a loss, the loss is smaller (£150 instead of £200) So if you think of the death of this friend as a "price" then it is a sunk cost. I presume nothing to do with your relationship with this group brought about the death. You not being friends with this group just leaves everyone in the bad loss situaition of losing a friend. The friendship that arose instead lessens that loss by having something good come out of it. This doesn't make the loss go away but you not being friends with the group wouldn't do that either so it is better to have the more positive situation of the two. I hope that makes sense and helps.

Thanks all, you are right. Better to look at the positive side. And not to think so much. I guess with the party over I ended up in the infamous black hole of all of a sudden having an empty room again.
On a more random note: how do you shut up a mouse somewhere in the roof of my room? Bloody creature has been running around since 7 am.

We have mice running around in the structures of our house, but it's usually been conventional methods, as it's more of a general problem, not an exact one like yours.
Of course, I've heard they sell these high-pitch (or ultrasound) noise makers that you can't hear but drives mice away. Somehow I think I'd just feel uncomfortable with something like that being on all the time... (and besides, I doubt you're going to run to the shops just for that (or what do I know) ). And it might do something to other animals as well... Of course, if it's not problem to you, then it's no problem (to you). All I can say is: try banging on the roof Doubt it helps though... Unless you can actually access some place that the mouse is in. In that case there's more options |

Thanks Jelena, Sughly, and Luna.
Hey Trep. Luckily, Max is at least 15, so at least he's lived a full life. I haven't heard anything further from my mom, so I think he's still how he was.

Oh lord, I'm happy to be living in Finland. It's just incredible what a world we live in. (I can't talk about it now - or possibly at all as I'm not good in that kind of a thing and there's so much, so much wrong in all these things and I can't explain them - but it would take so much time, I'd have to maybe reserve something like three hours writing it all)
How I'm happy to be living in Finland. Spoiler: |

But isn't Finland a poor second to Belgium?

Me too, tsa. I have no idea what's behind your head, but it makes you look like you have giant hair.
Max is doing better than I had originally thought, but it's still bad. No IVs, just some fluid injections. He's more nauseous than dihadrated, and he's stable. It gives me hope, although we all agree he won't make it much longer.

I would like one of these, please. It looks cuddly and housebroken.
Does it eat much?
