After I saw Serenity in theaters, I decided to the buy the full Firefly series because it was on sale and because people said how great it was. I still have it in the original shrink wrap collecting dust. I just haven't felt like watching it.

I think I'd rather sell it for a movie. I hate selling online, though, and I probably would get a bad deal at stores.

Seriously, watch it. The people on these very forums (including Doug, IIRC) made me, and I only wish I'd done so sooner.

^He made me see it, and I loved it too.. The movie was a bit to grotesque in certain places though..

d00d!

You've got to watch Firefly, even if the movie didn't thrill you. There's much, much more character development. I enjoyed the film, but only because I saw the series first.

Trivia: I didn't realize until I had watched the entire series, but the character Shepherd Book was played by an actor (Ron Glass) who also played a detective in the 70/80s US sitcom TV series Barney Miller. I knew I recognized him, but I couldn't quite pace it, then it struck me.

SPOILER FOLLOWS

Spoiler:
Too bad he was killed off in the film.

(Isn't there a spoiler tag in this forum?)

There is ( isn't it a pain trying to get used to different forum software?). You can either do it the long way:

[ spoiler ]text here[ /spoiler ] (leave out spaces between brackets)

There is a shortcut (in regular post reply or when you quote):

Highlight your text and click on the in the symbol tray above the text box.

...they're relaunching [TOS] with updated special effects...
We now know the new effects in fact did not make the rest of the show look dated. The new versions are a huge success with both non-fans and fans. They made a perfect thing better.

I agree with the others. Watch Firefly. NOW! I was convinced by some friends to pick up the DVDs mid-2006 and am glad I did. One of the most interesting shows around. Just give the 'setting' of the show a chance. It takes some getting used to initially. I feel like re-watching!

It seems like I'm one of the few people who got into watching Firefly after seeing Serenity... made Serenity highly confusing (I don't think they did a great job of translating the TV series into a movie - randomly introducing each and every recurring character from the series, even if it makes no sense, is not a good idea), but it was well worth. Edit: it. Well worth it.

So get to work.

I just ordered Invasion: The Complete Series on DVD. I was hooked on that show. Obsessed. Definately the most under rated show of last season - unfortunately cancelled, but the arc told in these episodes alone is awesome and pretty self-contained. (With the exception of a massive season finale cliffhanger...) The boxset is released next week in Australia.

Huh, never heard of it. I'll look it up.

The reminds me of the lame remake of The Invaders (original in 1967, remake in 1995). The remake had potential as a good Scott Bakula vehicle, but had some bad mistakes, like casting Richard Thomas as the principle invader and having some weird alien aspects that people just couldn't grasp.

Roy Thinnes (the star of the original) made a cameo to pass the torch. He's done little more than commercials since the original, but it was good to see him in it.

But I was sure after watching the pilot that the show was a going to be dumped. They screwed up a good concept.

This show is definately worth watching. It's serialized and fast moving - answers were revealed suprisingly fast (But in a good way!) Most dismissed it without thought as a Lost clone and put it in the same category as Surface and Threshold, but this one was actually incredible! It also had a loyal following. The CW was going to buy it off ABC until they found out how expensive it was to produce. I'd be careful of looking for info about it on the net because people have a tendency to spoil critical parts of the mystery. But I recommend it for whatever that's worth to you.

Okay.

Another show this reminds me of--though in relation to cancallation and production, not in story--is Nowhere Man (1995). They were cancelled too soon ... but they caught wind of that soon enough to provide some quick closure in the last couple of episodes (Firefly had a bit of notice as well).

Too bad Invasion didn't have enough time to cover their cliffhanger finale.

Edit: in fact, it would do good of Hollywood to consider closure to increase sales of DVDs.
