My trip to Japan (lots of pictures)
Mid-July I spent nine days in Tokyo. My brother had been there for close to a year studying at Waseda University, so I decided to go visit him and to see what this Japan place was that I had been hearing about. I had a really good time, and I know I'll be going back. But first I need to learn the language so I'll be able to interact with the people.
During the trip I spent the whole time travelling to different parts of Tokyo. I also made one excursion to Mount Fuji. This is a view outside of my brother's apartment. I'm not sure what the area is name, but it's right next to Waseda's campus, and about a twenty minute walk to Takadanobaba station. These are from a park in Shinjuku. This is the city part of Shinjuku. I think this is the Honda River. It's right outside from where I was staying. I can't remember where these are from. The next seven pictures are from Asakusa. We took a boat ride back from there. We passed this interesting looking thing. I saw a lot of these guys on the riverside. I think they're homeless. The next three are right outside of the Hamarikyu park. This is the start of the hike up Mount Fuji. We were thinking of going to the top, but my heart wouldn't have any of it, so we didn't get far. I don't know if the elevation was too high, or what. Shot from Takadanobaba Station. These next two I took from Tokyo Tower. Some weird spider-like statue. This is a main shopping street at Ginza. I took some more pictures at Harajuku and Shibuya, but with my brothers camera because I forgot mine. He hasn't gotten around to transferring them yet, so I can't post them unfortunately. I also took a few quick movies.Nothing much to see, though, I mainly took them to get the sounds of Tokyo. In this first one I was walking around on a small shopping street and there was a few people playing music to advertise something. They kept moving down the street, so I didn't get as close a shot as I wanted. Here's the train coming in at Takadanobaba Station. The music you can hear in the background is from Astro Boy. It always plays when a train is coming in. I can't remember where this is from. I thought I had kept the video going longer, but I guess not. |

Nice pics, my husband is going back to Japan in September. This will be his 2nd trip this year. The first time he went was in June. The company my husband works for is based out of Japan. Here in the states there are three plants and then the parent company in Japan. Matt my husband will be going to Shinagawa. That is the only place I pronounce, I am sure that he is going to other places as well.

Fabulous pics! I'm surprised to see so many signs in English! Looks like you had a great time there. How did you like the food?

Wow! Gorgeous. That is certainly a country I'd like to visit someday.
You were probably getting some altitude sickness on Mount Fuji. I remember being at 9-10,000 feet in California and feeling awful because of the altitude. Some get it worse than others. The oxygen levels in the atmosphere are lower. I remember feeling sluggish, having a headache, getting winded easily and even feeling a little nauseated. If you ever go back and are determined, you can try and acclimate yourself beforehand (and I remember hearing they also sell supplemental oxygen up there too.). It's very cool you got to go (to Japan and Mt. Fuji). |

Let me be the first to say "Tadaima!" (Welcome back!), even though you've been back for a while!
Very nice pics indeed. The unidentified shrine above looks familiar but I can't remember the name of it. My best pal and I have always planned on travelling to Tokyo and staying for a few weeks... Hmm, maybe someday.
