Holy Anagrams Batman! Riddle me this adventure gamers!

I don't know if anyone likes to do stuff like this, but I was bored and decided to make anagrams of adventure game titles today. The fun was in making them, but I figure maybe someone would like to de-scramble them back to their original titles. Some of them are a little forced, but what can I say. Nobody is perfect. The games span the last 20 years and I used the sub-title for those that were from a series. Anyway, if anyone wants to give it a try, good luck! Oh, the number of words in the title don't necessarily match that in my anagram. If you want the number of words per title, I will give them if asked.

1) Fate Dooms The Chow

2) Fish Soften Hearts

3) Sikh To Decry Fumes On Lane

4) The Adroit Viper Dance

5) One Loves The Gas Fumes

6) The Sneaky Beatles

7) Man On A Foggy River Dive

8) The One Jungle Story

9) Rather Good Fines

10) Hold It On The First Cycle

11) A Game For The Dragon

Help?

I don't know what to do... :o

An example, perhaps :)

Bastich 01-12-2004 05:56 PM

You just have to rearrange the letters to find out the adventure game title. For example: IATMNAIRUS = Sanitarium. The only difference with the ones I did above is that I formed words and arranged them to seem like titles from the letters rather than leaving them a jumbled mess like the Sanitarium example.

Here are some perhaps easier examples (Highlight the brackets for the answers):

A sex pimp {Pepsi Max}
A cool iced act {Diet Coca Cola}
Where bugs go {George W Bush}

Get it? It's simply about twisting around the original sentence (Or the reverse)

EDIT: I'm so slow. :)

Erkki 01-13-2004 03:58 AM

Spoiler:

1) Shadow of the Comet
2) Sins of The Fathers
3) The Curse of Monkey Island
4) The Pandora Directive
8) The Longest Journey
11) The Dagger of Amon Ra

These are all I could solve. I've been trying for more than half an hour with the rest but can't do them.

Erkki 01-13-2004 08:46 AM

Spoiler:

6) Beneath a Steel Sky
10) City of the Lost Children

Still no idea what these are:

5) One Loves The Gas Fumes
7) Man On A Foggy River Dive
9) Rather Good Fines

AFGNCAAP 01-13-2004 09:11 AM

7) is
Spoiler:
A mind forever voyaging

AFGNCAAP 01-13-2004 12:36 PM

I deciphered 2,3,4,6,8,11 (haven't read Erkki's spoilers):
Spoiler:
Sins of the fathers
The Curse of Monkey Island
The Pandora Directive
Beneath a Steel Sky
The Longest Journey
The Dagger of Amon Ra

WOW! I wasn't sure anyone would even try. You guys kicked butt! Between the two of you, you got all but 5 & 9.

5 is understandable because it is the US title for that game. You guys across the Atlantic got a MUCH shorter title. That might be a hint I guess... :)

I am not so sure what is hard about 9 however. In the game, patches are a very bad thing though... :)

hehe... I actually tried that for a moment, but somewhy skipped it.

I'm sure the last one is very simple, but I just can't solve it right now.

AFGNCAAP 01-13-2004 03:31 PM

I still have no clue about #9 (I lost my patience and consulted your answers for 1 and 10, Erkki).

Bastich 01-13-2004 04:37 PM

#9 has 4 words and is an early 90s game.

Erkki 01-14-2004 04:22 AM

I give up

Royal Fool 01-14-2004 06:50 AM

Wow... I find nr. 9 tough, I think I managed to do:
Spoiler:
Of The Gods... but that still leaves the letters RARINE out, so I'm not sure if I'm on the correct trail!

AFGNCAAP 01-14-2004 07:27 AM

No idea. If Royal Fool is on the right track, I'm pretty sure I don't know an AG with such a name.

I tried to make my own anagrams instead and boy it was hard. Guess they're not as good as Bastich's, but maybe someone would like to solve the following:

12) Archer-eyed Unit
13) The Old Used Arm Filter
14) Nigh Red Planet Goes

(PS The hyphen in #12 is not part of the original name)

HaiDang 01-14-2004 10:13 AM

Wow, is there any rule or tip to make anagrams like that? I have no idea how Bastich came up with all the good stuff. :P

There is a trick to it. Unfortunately I didn't figure it out until I had already filled 3 sheets of paper with scribbles making the first 3 anagrams. I just about gave up at that point because it was so tedious. My hand was cramping from all the writing. I then remembered that I had an old Scrabble board game in a closet somewhere. I did 8 more in the time it took me to do the first 3 with the Scrabble tiles and they were better ones too. It is so much easier that way and a LOT more fun. Not to mention, you can't screw up and forget a letter, etc.

Man, #9 has completely stumped everyone. This is the last hint before I tell. St. George is very familiar with one of the words in it.

AFGNCAAP: I have answers to your anagrams, but I don't know how to post them in "spoiler" mode or I would. I don't want to ruin it for anyone else who may wish to try...

BacardiJim 01-14-2004 04:14 PM

#9.
Spoiler:
Rise of the Dragon

Bastich, for spoilers, use the {spoiler} {/spolier} tags on either side of the text. Of course, you use the []'s and not the {}'s.

Now why did someone go and do something that actually makes sense? Don't they realize their job security is at stake if they don't make the simplest things as difficult as possible? :P

Thanks. LOL!
