fire fox ?
ok, please tell me about this "fire fox". I have been having problems with explorer and I did a search and Microsoft knows of this problem with windows, but they want you to pay to have it fixed? Does anyone know any truth to that? A friend of mine uses fire fox and says that some images are not displayed right, any thoughts on that? What I am looking for is just some general help.
Thanks

What!? I have never heard of any problem with a web browser that you had to pay to get fixed. I'm guessing you have a virus that is causing that to pop up and it's a scam to get money.

IE has been hijacked.
You should have a spyware programme to protect you from these things. Like Spyware Doctor (not free) or Adaware (free)

I have AVG and it runs 2 times daily and updates every morning. I also run spy sweeper in the background at all times. I also use a fire wall at all times as well. I do a (deep clean) once a week and the other programs pick everything else up (if any).
this is the site that I read all the info on, it sounds exactly what has been happening to me - then again I could be showing my blond roots and just having a brain fart ..... any help would be great. http://http://72.14.209.104/search?q=cache:Ch4ncuEAmtMJ:www.selfemployedweb.co m/internet-explorer-not-responding.htm+window+not+responding&hl=en&gl=us&c t=clnk&cd=18

Firefox? Pah. I prefer Opera myself.

I've been using Firefox for over a year now, and I can honestly say, I have no desire to switch back to Internet Exploder. This browser is less targetted for virus coders, and has a number of really nice features (like tabs) that I have come to enjoy greatly. There are some web pages that don't play particularly well with it, and it sometimes handles flash sites a little funny (plugins that are common for IE usually get implemented a little later for Firefox). But regardless, there is really no reason to use IE after you've done the obligatory Windows Update. Pack it away and install Firefox (and consider getting Thunderbird for your email, while you're at it). Your computer will thank you.
[ETA: The ladies (and Aj) are right, however. Opera is a perfectly viable alternative. I simply can't speak from experience, as I haven't used it yet.] Last edited by Lee in Limbo; 08-17-2006 at 04:14 PM. |

I prefer Opera myself, but I'm an "anything but IE" girl... I recommender downloading both Firefox and Opera, giving them a whirl, and seeing which you like better.
I can't help with the original problem, since IE never worked entirely right for me anyway. So I use LitePC to uninstall it. Peace & Luv, Liz

I use Opera as my primary browser, Firefox as my secondary (also Firefox-based applications like songbird, flock), and IE rendering in Firefox.
Security: 1. Opera (obscurity plays a part) 2. Firefox (responsible design and fast updates) 3. IE (loads of criticals) Speed: 1. Opera (renders the fastest) 2. Firefox (fast with heavy pages) 3. IE (as fast as Firefox on light pages) Features: 1. Opera (save sessions, gestures and many more, not as good at Ad blocking as Firefox) 1. Firefox (extensions mostly cover what Opera has, some of them not as good as Opera) 2. IE (severely lacking in features)

Anyway, I've discovered that Opera, in my view, is way better with the browser features. The tabbing support is a lot more intuitive; in fact, I never used tabs when I was a Firefox user because I found them so unintuitive. Also, I never really got into the Firefox extensions, as whenever I had to update my browser, they'd stop working. The main drawback to Opera, unfortunately, is that it's even worse at displaying IE-only sites than Firefox is. But for that, I blame web developers.
