It's cool because it's mine, of course.

I was going to volunteer that it's cooler because it doesn't need to be animated to be cool (and frankly, most animated userpics annoy me).

However, Squinky is correct.

First, yeah it looks damn damn damn damndamndamn cool. Just that cool-to-the-touch expression on her face.. and everything. And green is nice. Black, too.

Second, and this is even more of a personal thing, she reminds me of someone. It took me a while to figure out who.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwww.

Yeah, I had a BIG crush on Winona as well.

Oh what. You don't like animations?

Animations are nice, but sometimes, they tend to distract people from text and other important things people should be looking at.

Mind you, if I've got samIamsad crushing on my avatar so hard that he's constantly staring at it, I guess that makes it no better.

*chuckles at Squinky*

*turns to SakSquash*

Animated userpics (as well as those famous Spinny Gifs, but that's another kettle of fish) can be quite amusing, done well. I have one myself that my wife made for me. However, they're usually made by folks who aren't terribly good at design, are generally hard to read (where reading is required), and as Squinky points out, can be very distracting in a rather obnoxious way.

That doesn't change the fact that internet-loving people can and will use animations when and as often as possible. It comes under the heading of 'Just because you can do a thing, doesn't mean you should'. Most animated userpics are fannish, convoluted, badly timed, and hard to ignore when you're trying to read relevant information elsewhere on the same screen.

Whereas, Squinky's very clever icon has already besotted samIamsad, and it didn't even need to wink at him. A very effective choice of userpic, I'd say.

What about free expression? Isn't that more important than other people feeling annoyed?

How's mine? Annoying?

I er... happen to have the issues on a CD.
Of all the Sandman volumes, I think I like the illustrations for The Wake best.

90s Winona was just....great. It's a shame people grow up. Or rather, it's a shame that I sometimes develop feelings for people in the past.

Anyway, it's an alright avatar; I don't think it's worth all this hulabaloo.

There's a lot of stuff in Chit Chat that isn't worth a lot of hulabaloo but it gets loads more attention than this...

Agreed. Michael Zulli's art rocks. He did some other issues of Sandman, such as the one where Dream meets Hob Gadling for the first time, but the stuff in The Wake looks best. I recall reading that it's because the folks at Vertigo digitally scanned and darkened his penciled pages, instead of having an inker trace over them, as had been done on the earlier stories he illustrated.

Hm, this might sound pretty trivial, but I haven't watched a movie with her in it for quite some time... That out of sight, out of mind thing, probably.
