It's frickin hot here!
With the humidity it's like 37 degrees celcius here, which is too bloody hot for my liking. I made myself an ice cold fruit smoothie and it started getting warm before I reached the bottom. And this is Canada! What the hell's going on here??
Global warming or just good old fashioned summer heat? What's it like where you live and what are you doing to beat the heat? |
I hate hot weather. Fortunately, I live on the coast, so it never gets as hot as it managed to be in the last couple of weeks of term at university .
Maybe I need to go somewhere where it's now winter... |
Right now in the Central valley of California, it's 90 F (32 Celsius) and it should get up to 97 to 104 (36 to 40 C) over the next 4 days. But that's par for the course this time of year around here. You get little stretches of 100 degree weather then it calms down again (90's). It's a dry heat though so the 90's are more bearable than if it were humid.
Luckily a nice shady spot outside is comfortable but yes I use my air conditioning quite a bit because of my dog and cats and I don't get good airflow through the apartment. Just to show you how varied California is: 10 day forecast for San Francisco 10 day forecast for South Lake Tahoe |
Living in Sweden makes you cherish the hot and sunny days. (Stockholm is on the same latitude as the south tip of Greenland. But our climate is warmer due to the Gulf stream. (So far...))
You never know if a hot day is the last hot day of the summer. This week has been nice with around 24 C/75 F where we live. The hottest so far this year in our part of Sweden has been 28 C/82F. Last year my daughter and I went to Mallorca. The hottest we had there was 38 C/100 F. That's the hottest we ever have experienced, we were thrilled! Mel, some day I'm going to see California to experience the climate and just enjoy the heat. :) |
You guys are mad. Hot weather is evil.

I concur.

I can totally understand wanting to experience lots of sun and hot weather if you don't get it often enough. Also, I can't do much about the weather so I've adapted. Actually in comparison to the midwest where it gets extremely humid and upper 80's can be miserable, this isn't bad. Granted when it gets to be 100, it's nice to have air conditioning (and it is always advisable to park your car in the shade otherwise you can't touch the steering wheel).

It's only about 28 C here (36 C with the humidity). I don't mind hot, sunny weather (when I can work on my Teva tan :D) but I really hate hot and humid weather, which is almost always the case in Southern Ontario in the summer... blecch! Because of my dad (who, after having his third stroke, gets really unconfortable in warm weather), our house is usually in A/C comfort all summer long. Good thing I'm not the one paying the hydro bill!

102 F/ 39 C today, 91 F/ 33 C right now at almost 9 PM.
It's July in Alabama. I'm used to it. |
It was unbearable thirtysomething (up to 35.5 C / 96 F) here until Wednesday/Thursday, when some kind of cool front, announced by a beatiful thunderstorm, came. Today the heat stays in the low 20s (Fahrenheit's 70s), which would be perfect for me, if not for the strong winds, which make it seem colder.

Hot, humid and yucky here too (an hour north of Toronto, Ontario). It's my worst time of year. I prefer the mid 20's for the day and teens for the night. Though I'm not asthmatic or anything, the worse thing about this kind of weather is that it is often accompanied by a smog alert (even in my part of Ontario - cottage country and few large towns). It comes from the U.S., carried by the southern wind flow.

The other day our temp was 95F (35C), with high humidity, making the heat index = 110F(43C), much like what Scott is putting up with. Our only saving grace is the daily thunderstorms, so the evenings are cooler than his.

When it's hot here, it's always very humid too. Currently it's 27 / 81 F here, which is bearable.

Hot as hell in Texas at the moment.

I'll be sun bathing in sunny Spain on monday. Goodbye shitty England... for a week at least. :D

I pity the fool who lives in a bona fide hot country. It was 'hot' here a few weeks ago - we're talking as 'warm' as 30 degrees celcius - and people were running around screaming "I'm melting, MELTING!".
Virtually. Still, at least we have one mitigating factor working in our favour: the weather is so bloody rubbish 99.9% of the time here that no bugger has air conditioning, so when temperatures do creep above our comfort zone, there's not a lot we can do about it. The London Underground has huge notices at the entrances during the summer, along the lines of "It's super hot in here. Don't come through if you're pregnant. Or old. Or don't want to stand with your face embedded in someone's sweaty armpit for half an hour at a time." My conclusion is, don't go to London. And stay indoors with plenty of fans. Fortunately it's gone back to being pleasantly warm here, rather than uncomfortably, keep-your-window-open-all-night, might-wake-up-with-a-crazed-druggo-standing-over-you but-that's-better-than-trying-to-sleep-like-this kind of hot. :shifty: |

It's been Scorchio today. Went to the beach and frollicked in the rock pools catching fish and crabs to impress the nephews. (although they just screamed and ran away at the sandworm)
Of course we are talking about Scotland Scorchio (27 c) but thats bloody warm enough thank you very much. |
