What interesting synchronicity...I was just telling a friend how much I could go for a good schvitz right now.
We actually haven't got the hot temperatures the rest of Europe suffers from right now.
But we do use our sauna a lot all year around.

Let me guess: Your sauna is inside the house and big enough for the whole family plus one or two?
If it is, I'll be so jealous.

Our sauna is designed for a family. Four persons (of grown-up size) can sit in there comfortably. Nowadays our children seldom sauna bathe so it's just Christer and I. To be honest it's most often he alone, about once a week. That's how he recharges his batteries.

EDIT: And yes, it's inside the house, in the basement. The only room down there that wasn't ruined by the flooding.

Yep. Now I'm officially jealous.

Going through that "modest teenager" phase, I suppose.

I'm beginning to see your point about Christer and I having much in common. I can't think of a better way to unwind and de-stress than a good sauna, and I feel energized and renewed after taking one as well.

Do you suppose the Lord was trying to tell you something?

I still think that sauna is the most important invention in the world.
I'm amazed that I could live without it for seven weeks during spring.

When I came back, I almost had to just live in the sauna, just to get all the missed moments of the seven weeks back, if you know what I mean.

Each year the town of Jukkasjärvi in the very north of Sweden builds an ice hotell.

Everything is built of ice. You sleep on reindeer furs in comfy sleeping bags. The temperature is around -6 C/ 21 F. In the morning you are woken up with something hot to drink and you then start the day in the sauna!

Is the Sauna made out of ice too?

Yuk . I feel for you. Our hot spell has broken and we're having day temps of around 24 and evening ones of 15 or so. Great for sleeping.

It's supposed to break this coming week. Even the bay area is getting hit with 90's which is highly unusual.

I'm really hating the heat right now because it's worsening my jet lag that I need to recover from. I haven't had a good nights rest in four nights, so I feel horrible in the mornings.

I'm thinking about getting one of those mobile A/C's. I'm a bit worried about its power consumption, though. I don't want to be surprised with a huge bill at the end of the month...

I'd skip that if I were you. Mobile A/C's are neither very effective at cooling nor very efficient with their power usage. Plus, the current heat wave will subside and you'll be stuck with a giant piece of machinery to clutter your home.

Right now it is over cast in Griffin, Georgia where I live. I hate the hot weather. I keep my house at a cool 70 F during the day and 67 at night. I like my house cooler the better.

The Eastern US coast is getting nailed right now with heat. In New Paltz, the weather channel says it's 99F but feels like 114F. I just walked to the post office and back and I feel like i'm about to pass out.

Well, a friend of mine has one and it really is quite effective in cooling his bedroom. It generates lots of noise, though, and you're also right about the power usage.

I was planning on using it in my home office, which is not an awfully big room.

It's still pretty warm in Finland, still over 20 degrees Celsius, but the nights are getting REALLY COLD.

The temperature during nights is something like 5 degrees only. Autumn is coming...

Ohh summer sauna! Do you jump in a cold lake after your sauna, Jelena?

*

I don't mind heat too much, but humidity makes me want to DIE. This is why I avoid central Canada during the summer. Toronto and Montreal are just disgusting in July and August.

Today is a humid day so I'm rather grumpy. Luckily for us the Atlantic up here is freezing cold and provides an easy escape from muggy weather. All you have to do is sit by the ocean to cool off.

Our sauna is in the basement of our house and there's no lake nearby so, no I don't . But in the winter time if it's the right kind of snow: a thick layer of soft snow we run naked out in the back yard and roll around in the snow.
Then we run back into the sauna. It's great!

I bet Kolzig does jump in a lake. I remember some picturs of him by a lake this summer. And a Finn by a lake definitaly has a sauna close by.
