Default Going to Stockholm

Hey all,

A friend of mine and I are going to Stockholm (for those who don't know, it's the capital of Sweden) for three days in a few weeks. I haven't really started looking into the sights or anything - I know there's a zoo, an amusement park (as far as I can remember) and a museum with the wreck of the Wasa-ship. There's probably a lot more there to see and experience. Any tips?

Thanks.

Wormise
The zoo: Skansen isn't an ordinary zoo. It's more of an outdoor museum with environments from different parts of Sweden. There are also animals but like I said not the regular zoo.Check it out here:
http://www.skansen.se/
The amusesment park is called Gröna Lund. Not very big, but very atmospheric with fun things to do. I go there with my children every year.

The Wasa ship is well worth a visit.
http://www.vasamuseet.se/Vasamuseet/Om.aspx

All these three are situated on the same island: Djurgården which also has beautiful areas to picknick. It's a haven!

You also shouldn't miss Gamla Stan: The Old Town.
Watch out for the tourist traps though!

Why not watch the changing of the guards at the caste in The old town.

If you're interested in architechture you should go on a guided tour of Stockholm's city hall. That's where the Nobel dinner takes place. It's very interesting!

These were the first things I came to think about. Stockholm has of course tons of restaurants and clubs which I'm not familiar with. I guess the beauty of travelling is that you have some things planned but also play it by ear.
Have a great stay in Stockholm!

I second the recommendation of the Vasa museum - it's like stepping back in time!

Skansen is also well worth a visit. I went in the evening when it was virtually empty, so it was very peaceful - just me and the animals. There are exhibits with people in Swedish period dress inside them, though, so if you're interested in those you'd better go earlier before they close...

Have fun!

Skansen is situated on a mountain and there are a lot of places to just sit and enjoy the atmosphere. There's on spot with an amazing view over Stockholm. Very romantic!

Hope you have fun, Wormsie! Will be a good opportunity for you to brush up on your Swedish.
Stockholm is a beautiful and exciting city, so I'm sure you won't have any problems in finding things to do.

I really recommend you go visit the old city. The Grey Goose is a perfect place to have a few beers. http://www.restaurangguiden.com/sth/...elska/info.htm

The Science Fiction Bookstore is also a great place where they have all you need (books, games, movies ect.)

Have fun!

http://www.stockholmtown.com turned out to be a good resource. Initially I was worried there woudln't be enough things to do - but now we have noticed that we can't possibly do everything we would have wanted to do. Must visit Stockholm some other time as well, then!

Sorry, I don't live in West Sussex, so I can't help you there. (I live in Finland.)

Whoo, what a trip! Just returned to Finland.

Unfortunately I didn't send any of you guys cards. I forgot to ask Trep for his new address, for example.

We didn't have time for all of the things we had planned, but that was OK - better to spend time at interesting places and not rush through your holiday, stressed out.

I took photos, but I don't have a digital camera. I'll post some of those pics here if I find a way to get my scanner working...
