Default Return of the Killer Futurama Rumour

Apparently Katey Sagal announced on Craig Ferguson's late late show tonight that 13 new episodes of Futurama will be airing on Comedy Central starting in 2008:

As usual, I'll believe it when I see it, but apparently a lot of the cast are confirming having signed deals for recording. I just hope David X. Cohen, Matt Groening, Bill Odenkirk, Kristin Gore, and the others behind the show are with it as well.

Last official news I heard(straight from Groening) is that they were definitely doing 4 straight to video movies starting Fall 2006 and there was no new season.

New and old episodes will begin airing in 2008 on Comedy Central. Actors Billy West, Katey Sagal and John DiMaggio have agreed to return as voices for "Futurama."

"We are thrilled that Matt Groening and 20th Century Fox Television have decided to produce new episodes of 'Futurama' and that Comedy Central will be the first to air them," said David Bernath, senior vice president for programming at the network.

This is the best news since the last time we got these news. Hopefully, it's true this time, and we'll actually get new episodes.

2008 seems like a long wait, though.

Peoples hands can only draw so fast, you need to record dialogue and come up with witty storylines. 2008 is ~ 18 months away. I'm not saying they'll have made all the episodes for a season by that time but they'd want to get a few under their belt.

Yeah, I know.

It's just... a long wait.

The four DTV movies were already confirmed and underway, so I guess Groening changed his mind after CC threw the right amount of cash his way. I'd rather have the season than the movies, so this is good.
