Default Midsummer magic

Tomorrow it's Midsummer Eve in Sweden (and other countire as well I think). An ancient tradition to celebrate the longest day of the year which was an important day in the pagan times. We raise Midsummer poles, originally a symbol of fertility (neat phallus) and dance traditional folk dances. Of course lots of food and snaps. Along with the snaps there are snaps songs that are sung before you drink. It can be hilarious!

The night is filled with conceled powers and magic. If you sleep with a bouquet of seven different flowers under your pillow you will dream of the one you eventually will marry.
We're having 18 guests over. Hopefully the weather will be nice so we can sit outside.
I was imagining a Midsummer party with Adventure Gamers Forumites. Wouldn't that be something? We could solve the mysteries of the world while the sun is up all night.

My calendar said it was the summer solstice yesterday.

Yes, but since the church claimed Midsummer Day as a religious celebration (which Midsummer Eve indeed is not) they pick the Saturday which is in between the 20th and the 26th of June. Midsummer Eve is then celebrated on the day/night before that. This means the celebration isn't on the exact day of summer solstice as it was in the pagan times.

It only differs with a couple of minutes so I guess we'll have a looong night to party tomorrow as well. There might even be some pictures if I'm in the right mood!

Happy Summer, everyone.

It's been summer here in Los Angeles for the past month, though, so NYAH!!

(I seriously need to lie out in the sun to tan. Right now my head, face, neck, and arms are copper while the rest of me is light olive. I may do a day trip to Long Beach next week.)

I didn't want to use the English/American schnaps-word since I don't think it's really the same. Schnaps is sweet, right?
Snaps is spiced 'scandinavian vodka', not sweet at all. We have small glasses with snaps on the table and every now and then someone starts singing a snaps-song and then you're supposed to empty the glass in one sip after everyone has yelled: SKÃ…L!

Ooh, that sounds like a round of shots to us Americans. I haven't had a shot a long time, though. I used to do Jaegermeister shots (down one in a shot glass in one swallow, then chase it with a beer), and at this bar in Chicago called Big Chick's they give out free Blowjobs at midnight during the weekends.

Hm, Midsummer. Isn't that the night the legendary Swedish Bikini Team does the hoola dance? On a more serious note: I like Schnapps, too (only in small doses, and only one at a time). For some reasons, Vodka (pure and not mixed with what have you) always makes me throw up, ever since... I can't remember.

Nevertheless, ditto Mares.

Sorry! There isn't a Swedish bikini team at all.
But there are a lot of people in national costumes dancing folk dances.
