The only thing that annoys me more than real southerners are those who believe that faking southardedness will get them somewhere, anywhere. Larry the Cable Guy ought to be drawn, quartered and strewn across an okra field, like the sack of shit he is. The lowest common denominator ought to be insulted with his humor. If you can call it that.

On that note, I am still skeptical about this movie... on one hand, the Pixar peeps had the Car Talk guys consult them in the early stages about car personalities and suchlike... on the other, Larry the goddamn Cable Guy is one of the voices, ack! Everything about this film seems to cry Pixar movie for the flyover states!

I think my main problem with the movie is it's concept.
Pixar has been very successful in the past with humanising non-human characters and making them believable. Toys, ants, monsters and fish all looked believable as human characters. Cars just look stupid with big eyes and a mouth. But I'm sure i'll take my nephews to see it anyway

I'm interested in seeing this movie, but I have no idea when it's supposed to come to Finland.
But Cars isn't really THAT interesting to me, I'm more excited about Pixar's next project Ratatouille.

I really ought to start watching Pixar movies again. I can't quite believe that I haven't watched one since Toy Story 2...

The Incredibles is easily one of the best animated features of the past ten years... excluding maybe The Iron Giant, which is also a Braid Bird film. I'm saying this uneasily, looking apologetically in Miyazaki's direction as Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke and Howl's Moving Castle all rocked mightily, but for altogether different reasons.

By the way, it's worth saying in defense of Larry the Cable Guy's appearance in Cars that he's much more tolerable with a script written by Pixar instead of himself

So... What's all this with "must see Pixar movies"?
I didn't think they're that highbrow art. On the othe hand, I saw a bit of Antz and I have to say, I'm not sure if it's suitable for children |

Who says movies have to be highbrow art to be must-see? I think they're great films in terms of both technological achievement and storytelling (with qualifications). I think the reason they're impressive stories is that they're very effectively appealing to both children and adults. My father, who likes VERY few films, makes a point of going to Pixar's movies on opening weekend. That's like holy-crap-unheard-of in my family, for the most part. Likewise, my 14 year old cousin pretty much feels the same way. I think in order to create a film that can get both of those age groups really excited about a movie, you've got to have a pretty finely written movie

Yeah, Dreamworks' animated films are pretty much awful as far as I'm concerned.

Aaw, I think the main character in antz is cute..
But I DO agree that A bugs life is far superior to Antz.. And how can you not like Shrek? I love Shrek.. Number two is a bit stupid though.. I'm also gonna see "over the hedge" and "Bee movie".. One dreamworks movie I didn't like was Madagascar.. If I were going to list all animation films I recommend, the list would be much longer, but I only wrote pixar films on my list since that's what Lacey said he hasn't seen. In a complete list Howl's moving castle would have a very high place. (I've unfortunatly not seen Spirited Away yet, but I'm planning too.)

I'll just move away from this thread now, as I should've done in the first place. Never even come here. "Cars. Huh. Well, never heard, couldn't care less". That's what I should've though. |
