I've recently experimented on one of my sketches in the GIMP.
Here's what I have so far: I'm trying to draw her hair and a kind of hair net hat. I've mostly used the dodge and burn tools so far, but now I am kind of stuck. I had lines to go by for the rest of the face, but now I don't have any basis for the hair. Any suggestions what I could do? Here's the original sketch, by the way: -

Jaz
I don't have any suggestions for you, I just wanted to say you're really talented.

My paintings from spring quarter are done drying, so I took some photos of them. The shots are pretty poor quality.
And here's a closeup from of the second painting. And some quick things I've done recently. A few poses for a random guy. I was working on a dock scene inspried by artwork from Curse of Monkey Island, but then I decided to do something influenced by the Milk Man level in Psychonauts. |

Hmm, I'm not sure, but I'm certain it'll come before the Udderless Cow and Something Killed the Sly.

Well, at least I burried those games under a lot of shame and years. You still bring up illustrations as proof of the game's once and future existence.

I've been really lazy and haven't finished any artwork in a long time, which is ridiculous since I keep meaning to do a portfolio and learn more about art at art college. Part of my problem is confidence, since I dont' think I'm very good and I get frustrated at my inability to clearly visualise what I want a piece to look like. I have a load of rough sketches with neat ideas.
I tend to focus on my subject and then totally crap up the background. So I need to work more on backgrounds and study some works with lovely backgrounds. I'm a big fan of Mary Blair and Eyvind Earle, I love the sinister vibes lurking behind their bright colours and themes. Here's a good example of a crap background after I focused a lot of energy on making the children look the way I wanted: Lately I've been doing up some wedding stationery for my sister and some other people. Here's an example of this: I keep meaning to finish something I started inspired by a creepy legend I heard about a cinnamon bird. I'll post it here once it's satisfactory. |

Also, I don't know if this piece is for sale or not but I am willing to pay well if you would be willing to part with it. Thx. ...bysmitty

At the moment I don't plan on selling it. But should I ever think of selling it, I will notify you for sure. -

Jaz's piece, upon reflection, has a Van Gogh feel to it*:

KJ reminded me about the past. I used to draw a lot of comics as a kid, so I dug up my old sketchbooks again and decided to scan in two comics. These are from '95/'96:
1) "Math is postponed tomorrow, mom." "--Why is that?" 2) "I hit Mrs. Sonja when I was playing baseball." 3) "--On the playground?" 4) "No, on the head." --Erwin

I'd scan in my earliest comics, who are awesome/awful, but I'm too lazy.

Dutch is such a cool language: English+ German+ a little from the nordic languages. I'd love to learn it some day.

I wish I still had my earliest comics. I was 10 and obsessed with GI-Joe, and I drew dozends of 10 page-long episodes. One day I found out that my mom threw them all away.
