For cable, a million viewers is pretty good. Since Mares is in America and he may have Netflix, some episodes are in their inventory.

Re: Lacey
Well, the best rated Sci-fi original show (Battlestar Galactica) gets like 2 million viewers on average, and that's considered wildly successful by cable-TV standards. It's interesting that Star Trek: Enterprise was cancelled when it had the same viewership, and is generally seen as a failure.

BTW, thanks for the link, Mel I don't actually have Netflix, but it may be worth getting, seeing as how it has such obscure items in its inventory.

OK, Netflix recommendations (though Huz will have more info than I on these things):
Spearhead from Space It's the Autons (as in episode one of season "One")! Remembrance of the Daleks and Curse of Fenric Two good Sylvester McCoy ones. The Green Death One of those hilariously dated ones, as repeated last week on TV . Many of the others I haven't seen. Actually, I haven't watched Fenric yet myself . There are numerous reviews sites strewn around with detailed episode reviews if you want further recommendations. |

They have tons of stuff! Movies, TV shows. If you're like me and you miss everything the first time around and it's not at the local DVD rental place, you can get it there.

I wrote an awesome reply here but Internet Exploder ate it all, so I'll just replace it with some quick bollocks instead.
I enjoy the "stagy" feel of the original series. It was recorded in a multi-camera TV studio, like a sitcom without an audience, and it really shows. But that's part of the charm, and the restrictions on their budget and on their time meant that they had to work harder with the dialogue and the story. 90% of the time, they were successful. Of course, when they failed, it made you want to cry. One of my favourite stories is "The Horror of Fang Rock", a tour de force of minimalist programme making! The entire four episodes were confined to the same three rooms - but of course, that didn't matter, cos they were stuck on a lighthouse. Some of the best episodes of "The Outer Limits" were clearly made on an absolutely tiny budget, too. It's amazing what you can do. Oh, and a million viewers for Sci-Fi probably isn't bad at all. I remember Enterprise didn't get that many more viewers in the US than in the UK, which is ridiculous considering the difference in population. |

Oh, and I found the Peter Cushing movies fairly heavily dated and boring. Considered to be better than the original episodes (they're remakes) by some, I'd actually steer clear of them. They're not canon, anyway.

As for Netflix recommendations, mine (in no particular order):
The Talons of Weng-Chiang: A great Victorian period piece. Ghost Light: Netflix generously describes it as having "breakneck pacing". I would describe it as "edited to buggery so that it makes no bloody sense". It's a good one though, and the last one ever made of the 'original' series. Sniff sniff. The Caves of Androzani, purely for the rather off-kilter direction and the second-best baddie ever! You have to be particularly generous with the SFX here, though. Those "caves" look suspiciously look a television studio... The Curse of Fenric and Spearhead from Space as recommended by Lacey. ...and I don't think it's out in the US yet, but Genesis of the Daleks has just been released on DVD here. BEST EVER. I'd hope that people would use spoilers if discussing any more than a vague outline for any episodes .

From what I've seen so far (up to Word War III), and the preview for the following episode, all 5 episodes were about the Doctor traveling to different periods in Earth's history. Do any episodes explore other planets? If not, is there (besides budgetary limitations) an in-canon explanation, such as a line of dialogue dealing with the subject?

If this is Season "One" (Eccleston) that you're talking about, then there's no particular reason why other planets aren't involved other than that the writers chose not to use them. Both the classic series and the upcoming one make use of other planets (though John Pertwee's Doctor was stranded on Earth for a while).

David Tennant might be ok. Eccelstone was a dreadful Doctor (Even Paul McGann was better) and that pain in the arse Cpt Jack (should have left him dead)
Bring back Tom Baker

Why're they changing Doctors for season 2? I grew attached to Eccleston's goofy face!
Well, the new guy seems to have the same goofy look, along with more of a classic style of dress... I've read somewhere that the Doctor can have a maximum of 13 incarnations. If they're running close to using up all his lives, why are they changing him so often?
