Has this guy got much press in the US

Started off at 30 stone and decides to walk coast to coast. He's currently in West Virginia and weighs 22 stone.

I have to look this up every time I see it (because it never sticks) -

1 stone = 14 pounds

So he started at 420 pounds and is now down to 308.

He's like a slow Forrest Gump*.

Also 1 stone = 6.35029318 kilograms

* and I hadn't heard of him before but I haven't been watching Today or Good Morning America lately where they'd be most likely to feature him.

Let's see, what famous movie springs to mind?

A friend of mine in the States and her sister biked all the way from NY to LA a couple of years ago, in 6 months no less! (not that they were in a hurry, that'd be a shame of a trip). I think I'm going to do that one day - well that or just buy a crapcar for $1000 and sell it when I arrive at my destination

This guy was on the news today, he finally finished his walk, however his wife got so pissed off with him being away from home for over a year, she is now divorcing him, hehe.

Good for him!
His wife might not be divorcing him for the reason you think, though. There is a syndrome where a person wants to have someone totally dependent on them, and one of the easiest ways to indulge this syndrome is by feeding a mate or child until they're unable to leave the house or take care of themselves. That's how these "Jerry Springer" favorites who weigh absurd amounts and haven't been out of bed in years get into the state they're in...if they're eating a carton of eggs every morning for breakfast, someone has to be feeding them.
By taking the walk to lose weight, the man in the story attempted to break away from this syndrome.

I heard some DJs on the radio complaining that he walked about 3000 miles and he only lost 105 pounds and he ate fast food instead of healthy food. That just pissed me off. Maybe he could have lost more but that is one hell of an accomplishment. I'd like to see those DJs get off their sorry asses and walk that long.

They're probably lean enough, so they don't have to.

Yeah, but lean doesn't necessarily equal healthy, either.
