A selection of Doctor Who: Spearhead From Space, Robots of Death, The Curse of Fenric, The Caves of Androzani, The Movie, Remembrance of the Daleks.

I doubt it ever will. If it was likely, I doubt the guys at wcnews.com would have been given permission to offer it as downloads...

Mind you. Everything gets a DVD release these days. I suppose it probably will one day...
Yeah. Basically, the Academy episodes are available for download (with permission from Origin) and I spent a bit of money to a fan who was offering some at-cost burned DVDs of the downloads with some nice cases and menus. You can try seeing if he's still offering the DVDs.

Aw man, I got all excited when I saw your original post. I thought the series was available in some official form! I have the wcnews.com versions, though - all lovingly downloaded on 56k. They're great.

Should be - the BBC did a version of it in the mid-90s.

That's exactly why I buy DVDs (including DVD box sets), watch them to my heart's content, then sell them on Ebay. They don't tend to lose much of their value, even over several months. If you buy them from an online store while they're discounted, you can actually make a profit by selling them once the price has gone back to normal...

These TV DVDs have either stood the test of time or are relatively new arrivals:

Battlestar Galactica, the new one, Series 1 (not watched it yet, but I lent it to my flatmate and he watched it all over the course of 36 hours. And then started watching it again. I think he liked it.)

Firefly - similar reactions from all it is lent to.

The Office (the UK one) - series 1 & 2. A fantastic sitcom.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - the clunky BBC TV version! Can't help but love it.

Peep Show - "You're a big posh spaz. Because you do posh, spazzy things like ironing your socks. Socks, shirts, WHATEVER!" An absolute piece of genius in sitcom form.

Michael Palin: Pole to Pole - I love travelouges, and this one is fantastic - especially his travels through communist Estonia and then the USSR, weeks before the USSR dissolved. He captures the atmosphere brilliantly.

Live Aid & Live 8 - I don't think I'll ever get rid of these. The former has amazing performances by U2 and Queen, the latter has Pink Floyd. Enough said. Oh, other than the fact that I could set up my own attack dog training school by strapping dogs to screens showing the Elton John bit from Live 8 on a constant loop. They would be insane, slavering beasts within minutes.

I'm Alan Partridge - "I like that thing you said, I think it was 'Evolution not revolution.' Because that's like me in a way. I evolve, but I don't..... revolve." Great sitcom.

Plus lots and lots of Doctor Who. From memory: Pyramids of Mars, The Talons of Weng-Chiang, Ghost Light, Rememberance of the Daleks, The Curse of Fenric, and The Caves of Androzani. All great stuff. Must get Genesis of the Daleks when it's released!

Well, the MST3K box sets aren't the whole seasons. Just 4 random episodes for each one. And they really are expensive... At any rate, I had bought all the Rhino VHS copies back when those came out, and had taped the Sci-fi episodes. The rest I downloaded and/or bought fan copies.

"Keep circulating the tapes" as they say...

edit: I just saw the price for volume 1 and 2 of the box sets. $26 for each is pretty good. Comparatively, at least.

Re: Neverwhere

Neverwhere the novel is actually adapted from the TV series and not the otherway around.

Gaiman and Lenny Henry came up with the idea which was broadcast in 1996. Gaiman then decided to adapt it into his first novel and it was published in 1997.

There is also a comic book adaption that came out last year and Gaiman has occasionally spoken of writing a sequel.

Edit: I forgot to say I actually got the DVD set in Florida because even though the series was made by the BBC you can't acctually get the DVD in the UK.

Oh man. Oh man. Is there a whole DVD one can buy that's just on his travels through Estonia and the USSR, or is it a collection of a whole heap of stuff?

I don't "do" TV show DVDs...

Though if I saw Twin Peaks, I might buy it.

And The Pretender was fun, though highly repetitive... At least in the start, the later it got a bit less good, or maybe it was the fact that I didn't really see it that regularly anymore.

Oh man, I love it so much. I almost cried when I heard that it had been cancelled. The main character, George, is killed in the first episode by a flaming toilet lid from space. It only gets better from there. Mandy Patinkin is God.

Veronica Mars is wonderful! My favourite show possibly of all time. This means it will probably be cancelled.

Regarding everyone who likes Wing Commander Academy: You all rock, and sorry for getting your hopes up. (sheepish look)

It was indeed an awesome cartoon... which only adds to the bewilderment that the movie turned out so badly. But I guess that's another topic altogether.

Peace & Luv, Liz
