Mollies are great. I had half a dozen, and they used to come and suck on my fingers when I put my hand in the tank. They would also zoom around chasing anything brightly coloured moving outside the tank.
I used to have these really annoying fish called Tiger Barbs - stripy little fish which were reasonably well-behaved most of the time, but when they were "in heat" (not sure what the fishy term is!), they would go bright red and chase each other around the tank. Quite normal for their state of mind, you might think, but all they would do is bite each other's fins off... seeing a fish trying to swim without a tail is not fun. Ever have any baby fish, Tab? I had some for a while. They lurked amongst the plantlife until they got a bit bigger - then they mysteriously disappeared!! I was really disappointed and the fish got disapproving stares for months. |

If you use a fishstick as a writing tool on glass it is really hard to remove the fishstick residue.

Here are a couple of videos I took with my camera of my friend's salt water tank. She removed all of the plants recently because her anemone had infested everything (plants and rocks) and she couldn't control it otherwise.

I'll post some pics of my aquarium in a bit. My camera batteries were dead, so I have to charge them up first

I find watching fish to be very calming.
Has anyone got any tips about keeping algae at bay? I'm stuck with where the tank is, it gets quite a bit of light unfortunately, and there's little chance of being able to move it. Treatments do nothing , and the catfish try as they might, just can't keep up with the stuff.

Plecos and other catfish can only do so much, plus they get unhappy if their only diet is ambient tank slume. My tank also gets a bit of light, although the lone pleco in there is doing a pretty decent job at the moment. Introducing more current might also help. Maybe a powerhead? |

If his tank is getting a lot of light, trying to reduce the amount that the tank is exposed to might help along with the plecos. Try a piece of black cardboard or poster board that you can use to block out the light for the times during the day when the light is strongest. Since you can't move the tank, this may help along with the plecos and increasing the water flow. Also make sure you aren't overfeeding and introducing excessive nutrients into the system.
