I have a cold and I can't breathe
just want to share here (don't worry, not to spread it)....... when you have a cold, what do you do to breathe more easily?? Now no matter whether I sit/lay down, my nostrils are stuck and the medicines are not helping.......

Have you tried a nasal spray? That will usually open up the passages.

Bleh I hate colds, sadly it's unavoidable six months of the year here in the Netherlands (think UK weather ). Do you have one of those nose sprays? They usually do the trick. Also, put one of those eucalyptus blocks in hot water and breathe it all in and out under a towel for atleast 15 minutes, if that doesn't work I don't know what will. Get well soon!

Long hot showers usually do the trick for me, at least for a few hours at a time. Helps tp break up the congestion and relieve aching muscles.
Also, it's good to remember to keep eating, as you often lose your appetite when you have a cold. Your body needs energy to fight off the virus. Another thing that often works is to try to move around a bit if you can. I find that although I want to lie in bed all day when I have a cold, the symptoms usually improve if I get out and walk around a bit. Nothing too strenuous, juat enough to make you feel fully awake. For what it's worth, I feel your pain. I seem to be coming down with a head cold as of this morning, and I feel absolutely wretched. Like someone's been scurrying around drunkenly in my nasal passages with a large vegetable peeler. |

Whenever I get a cold, I'll make myself a nice chicken soup with a handful of sliced ginger thrown it. It always does the trick for me

Some really, really spicy curry and a few beers. The curry will unclog you, the beer will help you get some kip

You need to sweat the cold out. Inhale the above mentioned stuff, Crocodile Dundee-style with a towel on your head.
*I hope she won't put too much crack in the pot, it can spoil the flight.* Also, don't just sit back or lie down - take a walk or do exercises, work out or have sex, whatever. Don't get out of the swing of things, you'll recuperate faster.

Nose sprays won't work if your nose is completely blocked.
Take some sinus medication, drink a hot cup of a coffee or some of the spicy meals suggested above. Once you can breathe through your nose even a little hit it with the nasal spray. Voila. BTW the nasal spray helps keep your ear tubes clear, reducing the risk of an ear infection. Also make certain you drink a lot of water. Cold and sinus medications will dehydrate you, making your stuffy nose even worse. |

I went to get a nosal spray right after reading your posts 2 days ago! I've never used one / been precribed one before in my life and it worked like magic for me without any other aid (I dunno why no doctor ever recommended this to me when I visited any clinic...it's even better than any oral medication!!! I was just using a methol nosal inhaler in the past) I did have a long tight sleep after using it !
