Default Final Fantasy: Advent Children

Can someone explain to me why this film is good?

I watched about 3/4 of it, and aside from the visual invention and some natty action direction, it was frigging boring. I've even played the game it's a sequel too, and I didn't know what the hell was going on.

Waste. Of. Money.

Still, as part of my animation collection, it's got some nice stuff in it. To be fair.

It's pretty and I had fun watching it.

I would say that such amazing visuals should have been used to serve a more interesting story, though.
Now, it could have been much much better, and as it is gets nowhere near great, or groundbreaking, but I would still call it pretty good, if only because I liked seeing FF7 characters again.

I thought it was nice, nothing more. As some may know, my loathing of the Final Fantasy horde of Acolytes extends deep, but I managed to like the film nonetheless. I didn't care much for the fighting scenes, but the dialogues were nice and weird. Because if anything, I do like vague eco-babbling about prophecies and destiny.

Always liked that.

Advent Children just recently got released on DVD in the UK. Though I've seen clips. I've seen the older movie, that was fab.

I half enjoyed FFVII, got right up to the end and didn't finish it. Haven't played a FF since. Though, connecting players reguardless of platform is pretty exciting.

I'm not saying the action scenes weren't fun... Tifa's victory music coming from the baddies mobile even made my cousin, who didn't play it, chuckle, but this movie really confused the crap out of me with bad storytelling and horrid direction. It seemed more an excuse for pretty images than a movie. Which is fair enough, but I like my pretty images to have reason... for me, it didn't even do what it was meant to do (just follow on from the toons) because it was so incoherent.

Let me start off by saying I have never played a FF game, so it follows the "storyline" made no sense to me. Still, I got the impression that even a casual FF player wouldn't know what to make of this film's story. It had some nice visuals but nothing spectacular. I don't know why I even downloaded this movie (yes I did, I admit it, for shame. Hey, it's legal over here! Had it been a good movie, I would've bought it on DVD)

I guess I just don't like movies without any emotional resonance, otherwise it becomes an excuse for visuals. May as well be a bad pop movie... be damned those who say the music is good! Half the time it was deliberately, and poorly, out of synch with what was actually going on.

I played the game it was based on, and it made little sense to me too.

That's what I was about to say. Final Fantasy all always a tad obscure, so it's not a surprise that Advent Children seems a bit incoherent... But perhaps that's just us being stupid (or just not japanese enough ).

Default advent children:alternate subtitles.

take the "final fantasy seven:advent children" dvd, rip it to your hard drive. then go here and get the subtitles. now find something that'll allow windows media player [or your choice of player] to actually play the subtitles provided.

this is probably the only way "final fantasy seven:advent children" was remotely watchable for me. i tried with the original subtitles...this actually does the movie some justice.

Do you know what's funny?

Spoiler:
Cloud dies.

You're probably going to highlight that without a second thought.

I'm still waiting for this damn thing to come out here in Canada. I like animation like this and am a big fan of Final Fantasy (1-9 anyway...) so I'd like to see it. I'm not up for downloading bootlegs or dubbed versions....so I still have some wait ahead of me.

avatar_58:
this is an "unofficial" set of subtitles.

if you've ever watched [and enjoyed] "mystery science theatre, three thousand" then - to stretch a bit - this is like that. it's worth watching like this for two reasons:

one:it's very funny.
two:if you'd never played "final fantasy" then this version at least doesn't make you feel as if you don't understand what's going on.

That sorta sounds like it describes every FF game. The story in all of the games has been shit yet there's thousands of 14 year olds who claim that they have the most beautiful story ever and go on and on about how they cried when Aeris died, even though she wasn't even a major character.

So, what is the plot in FF:AC, I´ve played FF7, and replaying at the moment, does the movie continue where the game ended?

The movie kind of randomly picks up a point, has some "pretty scenes" set up with bad scripting and acting, throws in some really random music and excuses to fight with meetings out of the blue, leaves you guessing for ages as to what the hell's going on (you can't even tell if some black cat beasts are conjured or just there at one point) and who's who, then chucks all the characters back from the game for no apparent reason... and everyone uses cellphones... it's terrible.
