AFGNCAAP 09-08-2006 03:43 PM

So, six months later, I am randomly browsing the Wikipedia, and there it is:
Quote:

2. What poet appears in an incredibly long movie reciting all 4000+ pages of one of his poems?
L.D. Groban, in the appropriately named The Cure for Insomnia.

Okay, let's revive this thread!

THE LIST:

1. This actress, who appeared in only three movies, died in much the same way as one of the characters she played only five years after filming it.

2. Which actor played a character, created by a writer who was later portrayed in a TV "biopic" by said actor's son?

3 and 4, are Brisk Nap's and Lucien's, respectively. I don't know if they still want to play, though. Come to think of it, I don't know if anybody does. :P

5. Which movie was described by its director as a tribute to movie theatres of old, only to never mention it again after the film's success?

Spiwak 09-08-2006 03:52 PM

I was going to say that I know the first one but then I remembered I posted it.

Good job on The Cure for Insomnia. I thought someone would have heard about it long before now.

I'm almost certain I had heard the title before, but, until today, never knew what the plot content of the film is. :)

3. In "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon", the object of the game is to connect other Hollywood actors to Mr Bacon in as few steps as possible (e.g. Adam Sander-Anger Management-Jack Nicholson-A Few Good Men-Kevin Bacon). But who, as the actual center of the Hollywood universe (the most connected actor, as of 2004), would make a "better" subject for Six Degrees?

AFGNCAAP 09-09-2006 08:57 AM

3. Rod Steiger?

Lucien21 09-09-2006 09:16 AM

4. First spoken line of this famous film is "'Did you hear that?".

Name the film.

Star Wars.

Replacement #4:

This should be a fun one, not really a question but a Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon challenge. Thanks for the idea Brisk Nap! :P

Connect Charlie Chaplin to Kevin Bacon, only using actors or actresses that worked together in movies (the regular rules, basically). No producers or directors or people that knew so and so in real life, etc.

AFGNCAAP 09-09-2006 01:39 PM

Is there a particular number of steps in which we should do it? I have:

Charles Chaplin - Countess from Hong Kong - Marlon Brando - The Score - Robert DeNiro - Sleepers - Kevin Bacon

Spiwak 09-09-2006 01:57 PM

Six. I'm not sure if that means "six or less, though."

Meanwhile, I came up with:
Charlie Chaplin
> Tippie Hedron (Countess from Hong Kong)
> Sean Connery (Marnie)
> Harrison Ford (Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade)
> Gene Hackman (The Conversation)
> Julia Roberts (The Mexican)
> Kevin Bacon (Flatliners)
Six degrees.

Once A Villain 09-09-2006 08:00 PM

You both got it, but it looks like AFGNCAAP got it first. :)

It was cool that you both found paths different from mine. I was thinking something like:

Chaplin Limelight Buster Keaton

Keaton Sunset Boulevard (cameo) William Holden

Holden Network from here it's easy...

After a brisk nap 09-09-2006 09:31 PM

Since you've solved it now, I guess I can point out The Oracle of Bacon, which finds the optimal path between any two actors. Such as:

Charles Chaplin was in The Great Dictator (1940) with Don Brodie
Don Brodie was in Murphy's Law (1986) with David Hayman
David Hayman was in Where the Truth Lies (2005) with Kevin Bacon

3. Where, as is said twice by one of the visitors, does "nothing ever happen"?

4. Name this film:

AFGNCAAP 09-11-2006 01:50 PM

Are those too hard or are people simply not interested in the trivia anymore? In other words, should I start dropping hints or just reveal the answers and let this thread rest in piece?

Melanie68 09-11-2006 03:17 PM

They're hard for me. Something about the first one kinda-sorta rings a bell.

You and Lucien and Brisk nap and OAV and Spiwak are like the zen masters of movies. I'm a little bitty insignificant speck of dirt in comparison. :D

AFGNCAAP 09-11-2006 03:58 PM

I don't know number one myself, although it does sound oddly familiar to me, too.

Anyway, here come the hints for my questions:

2. It's a popular character - there is at least one upcoming movie featuring him (though with a different actor than the one I am asking about).

The films from 3. and 4. both take place in the same European city. As to which city, there is a visual clue of sorts in number 4's picture.

Oh, and totally off-topic, let me make fun of myself:

When I said #1, I actually meant number 3 but it was the first question in your post and I wasn't paying attention. Doh.

Jazhara7 09-11-2006 11:23 PM

Number 3: Berlin (I see a wall)?

- :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

AFGNCAAP 09-11-2006 11:46 PM

You are right, Jaz: both 3 and 4 are set in Berlin, :) , but I am actually looking for a more specific answer for #3 (although I now see it hadn't been clear enough; sorry). More details:

3. "Nothing ever happens" refers fo the building where the action takes place. The name of the building is also the title of the movie.

4. Another screen:
