Maybe it would if you held both speakers up to your ears. But it's possible that there's more to headphones than stereo speakers.

Assuming it's binaural audio (I haven't clicked the link), it does require headphones. The reason is that binaural sound is recorded basically by shoving microphones in the ears of a model of a human head. To reproduce it right, you need to get only the proper channel in each ear. With speakers, one ear hears both audio channels.

One of the podcasts I'm subscribed to, diggnation, went to Dolby Laboratories back in September and reviewed a story in the episode, where they did a sample of the actual podcast in holophonic sound.
