Default Buddhism is good for you

Is Buddhism Good for Your Health?

Quote:
Most self-respecting American neuroscientists would shrink from, if not flee, an invitation to study Buddhist meditation, viewing the topic as impossibly fuzzy and, as Davidson recently conceded, ''very flaky.'' But the Wisconsin professor, a longtime meditator himself -- he took leave from graduate school to travel through India and Sri Lanka to learn Eastern meditation practices -- leapt at the opportunity. In September 1992, he organized and embarked on an ambitious data-gathering expedition to northern India, lugging portable electrical generators, laptop computers and electroencephalographic (EEG) recording equipment into the foothills of the Himalayas. His goal was to measure a remarkable, if seemingly evanescent, entity: the neural characteristics of the Buddhist mind at work. ''These are the Olympic athletes, the gold medalists, of meditation,'' Davidson says.

Besides, when was the last time you've heard about a Buddhist monk sexually molesting a little boy?

I think so too. When I was traveling in Northern India and South East Asia, it was always refreshing to see how peaceful and tolerant Buddhists are.

Buddhism = the closest thing to a religion I would actually follow.

Buddhism = something I know next to nothing about, so I'll be reading this article.

I've seen a footage of a bunch of Buddhist monks in what seemed like an Asterix-type brawl once... they didn't seem all that peaceful to me.

Buddhists, like all mammals, can be mean OR totally awesome.

If I did, it was when I was very very young. My parents used to take me traveling with them when I was just a baby. The only parts of Malaysia I've been to recently (by that I mean about 10 years ago) was in Borneo.
