Yes. I'm expected to do preparatory reading, revise for collections at the beginning of the next term (and prelims at the end of term) and write an essay this Easter.

Of course, the important word is that they expect it. As for whether or not people actually do the work...

The part I don't understand is why, on holiday, you wouldn't be expected to do work, but on vacation you would.

I'll go through the information I have on it and try to find an answer, but that is what my tutors stated. And they're not the kind to lie about such things.

Eh... it's probably just some nuance of language that this unworldly American wouldn't understand, anyway.

From the Oxford English Dictionary (Emphasis Mine):

Vacation
2. a. A period during which there is a formal suspension of activity; one or other part of the year during which law-courts, universities, or schools are suspended or closed; holidays.

Holiday
2. a. A day on which ordinary occupations (of an individual or a community) are suspended; a day of exemption or cessation from work; a day of festivity, recreation, or amusement. (In early use not separable from 1.)

It's a pathetic point, and I'd need to ask to make sure of it, but that's probably the pedantry that they're using. Of course, the fact that it says "holidays" on that vacation definition...

I have also never been to Manchester or even London and I live in Britain.

Have you been to wales, where I live. I guess it is alot different to Londom as things will not be as crowded and the nightlife not so good.

I live in a little village in the middle of no whare, which is about 30 miles to the West of Swansea.

I always go to Swansea on a night out and sometimes Cardiff.

But I prefer Swansea a little better as it is closer to me.
