The 1933 version! It's a classic, the stop motion animation had charm, and it wasn't too long... 5 13.16%
The 1976 version! It didn't have lame dinosaurs, and I like the "man in a furry suit" look... 2 5.26%
The 2005 version! Kong finally seems real, and the bond between Ann and the ape is richer here... 21 55.26%
Kong who? Who cares about any of these?! Godzilla is King of the Monsters! 10 26.32%

Me too. I thought it was hilarious.

Spoiler:
And the worms swallowing Andy Serkis (Gollum/Kong) was pretty gross/entertaining as well.

The recreated spider pit sequence is on the new 1933 DVD. Jackson also did his tribute to that scene in the new film: it was the scene with all the huge bugs.

That's exactly what I thought the first time I saw it. The second time, however, resulted in more pronounced feelings of the type described in the first sentence, and less of the kind in the second sentence (if you go back and look at my posts, you'll see a change in my attitude after I see the film a second time).

I disagree there... Special effects aside, it's the remake that is better described as redundant. Though, as I've said...I'm not a big fan of ANY of the Kong movies. If someone hated the original Kong as well as the remakes, I wouldn't argue in defense of the films. I do respect the original Kong and I respect the story (it's well made and a great example of quality pacing in an adventure movie...no hour long boat rides or superfluous characters)...I just don't think it has ever been perfectly brought to the screen.

Well, if I ever go back and watch the new King Kong as a comedy, I'll keep that in mind.

Of course any film about a 25ft ape and a woman making gooey eyes at each other while skating in central park has to be a comedy surely.

The actress was amazing. When she tapped her chest and said "beatiful", I went, "Yes you are".

I did see it. But then again, seeing it again wouldn't even cross my mind.

I'm not a big fan of the story either, so I'd rather have it in a shiny package.

As I said above, I think it is partly a comedy.

Probably a good thing.

A 3 hour comedy is even more taxing than a 3 hour adventure movie, in my opinion. Heh. 3 hours for a part adventure, part comedy? Probably not a good idea. The real flaw of this film is that Peter Jackson just didn't know when to say, "Enough!" He's too in love with himself after the Rings films. He thinks he can do no wrong.

That's what it is, though. Or maybe he's just unintentionally being funny, but I doubt it. Think stampede.

Probably.
But I'm still not convinced that he could have done that much better. Sure, cutting off the odd part could have make it less taxing, but a remake of an average B-movie (albeit a classic) can only be that good.

In all honesty, I know exactly what you mean. However, I don't think Jackson intended it to be funny. I believe he intended it to be exciting and suspenseful. Either way, he failed. I didn't find the stampede to be funny OR exciting.

You may be right, but at the same time...it should be "that good" and not less good. If the movie was about two hours long, written with a sense of pacing and character more like the original, then combined with superior acting and special effects...you have one hell of a fun B-movie!

Well, my girlfriend was laughing, which made it funny for me.

It was fun enough while it lasted.
But yes, it could have been better. I won't cry over it, though. It's only King Kong, after all...

Groovy, i´d love to see that film.

How about King Kong vs. King Homer, who do you think would win that fight?

Cool movie. Like Indiana Jones, only with dinosaurs. I loved it, mindless fun as it is.

How can a remake be better than the original?
