I like the zombie nurses. They got this fetishistic nastiness about them.

I read somewhere that the featureless zombie creatures you first meet in SH2 were inspired by watching a teenager with his hood up and hands in his pockets dancing slightly to a walkman.

And the mannequin creatures must have been inspired by this:

Left - Artist: Hans Bellmer, Title: 'La Poupee' (The Doll), 1938. Right - Silent Hill 2.

Behind Closed Doors: The Art Of Hans Bellmer

Quote:
Hans Bellmer is best known for the life-sized female dolls that he produced in the mid-1930s and which he obsessively photographed over the next decade.

His myriad rearrangements of its body link his fantasies of adolescent girls as passive victim and powerful seductress with the themes of nostalgia and eroticism, and tie his work to the French Surrealists' ambivalent desire for and revulsion at the female body. Desire is projected onto the body of the doll in a way that remains controversial and disturbing today.

Although Bellmer is generally classified as a Surrealist, he actually initiated his doll project with a specific political purpose: to oppose the fascism of the National Socialist (Nazi) Party in Germany in the 1930s. After the rise to power of the Nazi Party in 1933, Bellmer, an established painter and graphic designer, declared that he would make no work that would support the German state. The unconventional or "degenerate" poses of his dolls were directed specifically at the cult of the perfect body then prominent in Germany. The dolls are represented in a constant state of mutation, multiplication, and recombination, often appearing contorted or bound, and occasionally lacking body parts or sprouting extra sets of limbs. These permutations echo autoerotic sensations rooted in the body. Bellmer's work was also an attempt to destabilize representations of gender being widely circulated in contemporary mass culture.

Aye, was just thinking that! Either that or he was drinking heavily along with the guy who wrote it. Still, it's getting me even more excited about the movie.

I agree. I always pictured Pyramid head as a physically substantial entity. Not pudgy but muscley.

I know that you guys know this already, but don't get too hyped. I sense people falling into this, and I still reckon that there's a high chance of it all ending in tears .

I definitely agree, and I'm trying hard not to get excited only for it to be just plain 'alright'. It's kinda hard with all these new shots etc coming out though. I still think I'll read reviews before I go see it, just in case.

I think it's clear that I'll enjoy the movie, at least on a stylistic level. I will be dissapointed if they overexplain what's happening, and even worse, if they do so using an interpretation that I really don't agree with. I also feel that his reasoning for making the main character female is somewhat lame, and reeks of executives convinced that making a male vulnerable doesn't sell to the American public.

One thing to note is that there have been rumors that the movie will not be screened for critics. It's possible that this was done to avoid having the storyline divulged, but this tends to be an action the studio makes when they expect a film to be universally panned and therefore not worth their time.

I plan on going in for a movie that at the very least was some good entertainment and a few scares. If it turns out to be more than that, than all the better. I think a more scary scenario is if the movie turns out to be fantastic, and then bombs, so then studios decide to stick to game movies that are more reliable and less creative, like Doom.

By the way, if anyone is interested, the official site has an area where the director is answering questions by the fans. Be warned, because it will only get your hopes up. He really looks like he's taking this thing seriously.

Argh! I can't wait!
Of course, the real challenge will be finding someone to go see it with...

.....they never should have shown any of the monsters before the movie is out. Spois the shockl and suprice. Still, the designs look nice, even though good 'ol Pyramid head could use a workout.

I'll probably wind up taking my cousin and her son. At least they both like horror movies.

Silent Hill: No green screens here. Awesome It's true though, I often notice it in horror flicks that use a lot of CG monsters, as opposed to sometime more artsy and lower-budget films that simply use make-up to great effect.
