Two things you should avoid when making a game adaptation:
1) picking a game with no plot to speak of
2) taking only a title from the source material

Even though the maker of Poor Man's Sleepy Hollow (aka Brotherhood of the Wolf) is not someone I'd particularly trust, and Radha Mitchell sounds totally unconvincing every time she speaks in the trailer (Yeah, I know, it's just a trailer and, believe me, I wouldn't mention it if it really didn't bother me.), I think this is the first game-based movie that actually does neither of those. Here's hoping it will be interesting.

The fog is nowhere as extreme as in game in the trailer, but seeing the shots of her walking through the town are really really nice... it looks just like the game.

Anyway, this looks like it might finally be; THE GAME TO MOVIE ADAPTATION THAT DOESN'T SUCK!

But then I thought Doom might be a decent action no-brainer, and it seems they couldn't even get that right.

However, I'm thinking the reason game movies aren't very good is because the source isn't very good, either. All the same "cheesy" monsters, bad acting and effects, etc are in the games, yet people complain when the movies turn out the same(whether they remain faithful to the source or not).

I think this one looks like it will work. Great source material, very good director, good writer, a great cinematographer, and now a nice trailer point to something that should not stink. They've tweaked a couple things, but it's still faithful, and this basically looks like the first game with some nods to the 2nd.
I'm not talking in sales. I don't think any video game nerd would give up gaming because of bad game based movies. I'm talking about how non-gamers and people in the entertainment industry view video games. It leaves gaming open to ridicule. Look at any review for a video game movie and you'll see the same boneheads saying the same thing - "This movie has no story, so it's just like a video game."

That poster seems like something of a missed opportunity to me. Doesn't really make me think of a horror film .

Do you think they will make sequels if this does well?

Not sure, there elements from the second one in this so if there is a sequel then it will probably end up being based on 3

But no doubt if this does well then there will be a sequel, hell even some movies out there get sequels even if they dont do too great...I think

I would love it if the second movie got based on 2 though

Silvsie, aside from a few disparaties in details (like Pyramid Head's.....erm.....head), that's exactly how the Silent Hill games look and feel.

Silent Hill isn't really sick, or gory... it's just upsetting.

Mindf*ck would be an appropriate term here Looks like the movie is taking a less subtle approach though, ah, we'll see.

I always thought Pyramid Head was a little pudgier. This is more like a The Cell approach. A bit more bloody, but it's reminiscent nonetheless.

I'm already freaking out over all the randomly flailing animated corpses that are going to be in this movie.
