Any chance for explaining the joke to the French-impaired? I suspect the trick is about pronouncing the French words as if they were in English (cinq<->sank?), but I don't know where to go from there.

The un deux trois quatre cinq is the numbers one to five in French.

quatre can be pronounced to sound like cat.

So it's 1 2 3 cat sank. (hence despite my initial thought as voiced by Karmillo, number 4 didn't)

Well, after reading some of the posts in Dasilva's "good book?" thread, I purchased a Red Dwarf book. It's supposed to be humourous, so hopefully I haven't wasted almost 4 dollars.
