What I want to know is, why is it that holly is always depicted with berries, yet when one goes to buy a sprig to decorate one's abode, there are no berries to be found?

Maybe because the berries are poisonous and they are afraid someone might eat them?


Though, as far as I know, the berries of mistletoe are also poisonous. Never trust white berries, if you ask me.
